2011 Roundup
Much like the previous years, kiteboarding and the associated social life driven by my recent acquaintances dominated my spare time. Travel in search of kiting spots took me to Martha's Vineyard, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, New York State, and the quest for the session took me to 31 different spots for 74 days of riding on the ocean, 6 days on snow. I had 11 days at Pleasure Bay, 7 at Winthrop, 6 each at Nahant, Mayflower and Horseneck. I also discovered some new spots I like a lot like Pine Point Maine, Plymouth Long Beach, and a few others I am told not to discuss on the internet.
Every year, it seems I get more and more kiting in, in spite of the knee injury that forced me to rest for weeks at a time. In 2010, I had 70 days on the water, 11 on snow. 2009 granted me 55 kiting days, 5 snow kiting. 2008 served 41 days. I attribute this trend in large part to 2 factors: 1) purchasing a drysuit. 2) abandoning windsurfing altogether.
I got word that Kristof scored a hundred sessions in 2011. That may be too much. I know that this year, maybe it was the injuries and the beating I took at Horseneck the day I lost my Mako, I learned that it is important to keep your kite addiction in check.
The best part of this sport has been the great friendships I have made and continue to make.
Everyone stay safe and keep the stoke alive. I don't want to hear about people going golfing or motocrossing on windy days!

Jean,
I love the blog post. I tried to track my sessions but I am no Doogie Howser
But its interesting to realize that paths I took this year in search of wind! I really look forward to this weekend at Tug. I realize that the conditions may not be ideal (maybe they will!), but I look forward to being with family. As I sit at work I just cannot wait to head west, its similar to the feeling a 1st year college student has coming home to catch up with family and friends. Like any holiday party its the opportunity to see everyone at once and that alone is what I am going for.
So thank you Jean for the many mornings you pulled me from the grips of my choirs, not because you pushed me, but more because I know how horrible it would be to give up on one of these days and memories for lack of initiative.
I look forward to logging many sessions this year my friend! Bring the wind!
well, i've know you for years now JD, and I think it's for the best that you don't waste your time with your choirs anymore. stick with your kiting and your friends.
I'm hoping to get more Nahant seshs like the one w/ 8+ft swell we got in november '11 these coming years!
edit your blog, and use the green picture icon below the text field to upload and insert. you can insert multiple images, but must upload separately.
Love it Jean!
I never kept track of my kiting sessions, but reading the "data" you have is really inspiring. I started a yoga/kite bloggy web journal a few days ago. maybe instead of riding my usual spots in 2012, i'll start branching out and trying new spots. i mean, if the world is gonna end at the end of the year, i better get my riding in! see as much as i can see!
thanks for posting, and happy to have shared a bunch of your 76 sessions with you.
Great data, words and sentiment, Jean! It's inspired me to keep track of my sessions. Jermy, what's your blog address? Would love to read it.
Nice sum up for the year!! Now we're going to be expecting The Jean Report every new year.

I used to be in a church choir, then I became addicted to the wind...
