July 4th Weekend Break Through

Well it was about time that we had the perfect combination of wind and weather. Summer finally showed up at our doorstep and I was determined to spend July 4th in a windy spot. I got up at 5:30am slowly pushing myself out of bed after about 15minutes. The goal was to be on the road by 6:15am. I got up slowly and the car was already loaded but I just got into the car after brushing my teeth, deoderized and washed my face. Said my morning prayers asking for wind and for a full day. Hit the road went through the tunnel when I realized I forgot Bob's new bar so I turned around to go get it. It was 6:38am when I was back at the tunnel's entrance to 93S when I made fast time home to get that bar. I drove down and made the bridge in 55 minutes. Got on Rt6, taking I think exit 4 for a quick bit to eat at the BK rest stop. Called Bob told him I am close by. We were going to ride his place but then Greg Maer called said there's plenty of Parking at Forest and that JD was going to be there demoing a bunch of boards that I wanted to try. I ran it by Bob after meeting up with him at his mom's place and we headed out to Forest. I arrived to find JD there looking like he partied all night in his truck talking to Hujol and T on the phone. Netto was with them as well. They went to Hardings because the forecast called for WSW and was a concern at Forest for the directions but I took a walk out to the point jetty and was fine. It was capping and perfect direction. I brought my board but JD said I could use the aboard he wanted me to try out. Okay fine but I still brought my Spark just in case. Greg SKyrocket delight was the first one out I was number two and away I went on the A-board Z series. Wow what amazing pop and upwind ability this thing has. I was throwing some big air for my fat frame on my 13 Waroo but the pop and lightness of this board made a huge difference. I was throwing it down.

As this was a day of break throughs I finally decided to try some things I never tried before. After a few lofty jumps I decided to pull the stopper ball in and try a dead man. I pulled it off because I remember seeing the water below me as if I was looking up. I then did some board grabs and wanted to try a board off but the wind seemed to be lightening up a little. A few hours of riding went by before I came in for a rest, lunch and drink. I then tried the X Series board which was roughly the same size as the Z series and had a bit more rocker and was rounded on the tips. It was a bit skatey and harder to tack up wind in the chop with all the spray and digging the tip into the water was rough. The wind continued to ease off for a bit so I came in for a rest as I wanted to ride to Monomoy Island about 4 miles downwind. I had been wanting to do that for some time but never did. When I woke up frm a nap I just got on the X-Board and rode towards the Island. Jean Dunnoyer was headed out there on the Wainman surf shape and I pursued. Low and behold behind me Bob was following. Zack started out but backed off halfway through. It took roughly 15 minutes of treacherous chop and current but I finally made it to the sand bar flats of shallow knee deep water kiteboarding paradise. Shallow water like Hatteras but clear on the bottom. The wind was a bit stronger there and I was fully depowered on my 13 riding in that area. I wished I stayed longer but I was afraid the wind was dropping off and so I headed back.
