Memorial Day brings in the Season!
So the season is officially on here in New England waters! Last year at this time a group of MASSkiters got together and decided that there was something that made us special in regard to the kiteboarding scene. Prior it seemed that it was hard to know when people were going kiting and for that we had less opportunities to kite with support. We did not have a centralized place to chronicle our epic kite adventures either. But we decided that if we pulled togther as a team we could then start to provide better resources to a new community.
We focused from day one on providing for those that wanted to become part of the sport. Not to fill the beaches but to make people feel welcome enough to ask for guidance. To get the rules out and make sure that we had an understanding of how to police ourselves. Prior to this those that wanted to kiteboard bought gear and showed up and out of fear of ridicule actually did all the wrong things in the wrong places. The secrecy gave a bad taste for starting and ultimatly people shut off to advice and rules. I myself was upset that some folks thought just because they started a year before that they were better than I. This Holier than thou attitude does not keep people from finding the sport or the launch. So then why not make a place where people are open to peers and mentoring.Where the newbs will listen and we can influence there progression to the sport safely.
Today after a solid year we have achieved this goal. We have newbies looking up and respecting the intermediate and we have the advanced even willing to jog a beach to save a kite from a kook situation. When we get there its never "WTF" its "your getting better, let me tell you what I think you did wrong!" MASSkiters are proud of this! I am proud of this! Proud of the people who have invested time and money to organize trips and parties and say that they like being a part of a group and take these unique advenures. How do we know that we are special? Hell, for a small group in internet site terms 10 of us are usually logged in! That says community! These are our best friends, people we trust with our safety, and people that we only hope can make the next ride so we all check in all the time! We hope this week repaeats the last! All week long we review the pics and prepair to do it again. You better believe if you left something at home, want a beer, a water, some food that one of us will be glad to help. My favorite part is community!
We saw this every weekend last summer, on frozen lakes over the winter. We traveled to Tugg Hill, Stormboarding, Wachusett and groups of us to Padre, Key West, St. Lucia, ect. We had the biggest throwdown ever at Hatteras and our friends and neighbors EastKB said we are crazy and totally stoked! We actually ride in numbers and many of us go out of our way to be part of the day. Be part of the pictures and video that we always makes sure we get everyone in there! But now its the new year! Its time to AMP up the group cause its summer and we are full of steam from every other damn season as we are always kiting in New England!
I welcome Memorial Day! But I am most grateful for going into this year with the amount of great frinds that I have met along the way! When I started I was afraid to ask help and now I have helped many and that feels good! It's good to be part of this!
Happy Memorial Day MASSkiting! Thank you everyone for kiting with me this season in advance! I look forward to many new friends along the way!

This site is a great resource and a key component of building a healthy community of people involved in the sport. I have found the advice I have received to be sound and the connections I am making through it to be valuable.
Thanks.

well put, Johnny!
I'm just getting started and I really appreciated everyone's hospitality and welcome when I met the Hatteras Hegemony a few weeks ago down in OBX with Greg. Had a great lesson with Jay yesterday down in West Dennis and actually got up and rode for 100 yards or so (until the beach suddenly appeared out of nowhere!) I look forward to hanging out with you guys this summer...
I second your sentiment JD. MassKiting got a good bunch of uys to hang out with. Let's keep it that way.

Nice, Johnny. My sentiment exactly.
