Portland Pudgy safety dinghy wants to try kiting

deb paley's picture

We make the Portland Pudgy, a safety dinghy that can be used as a proactive lifeboat. It can be rowed, sailed, or motored. We want to try it with a kite. We're looking for someone who could see what it does under kite power. Any suggestions? We're in Portland, Maine.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Thank you everyone, for all your suggestions. The Portland Pudgy is actually a boat, not an inflatable liferaft. It can be sailed, motored, and rowed. I think the photo I chose might give the impression that it's a static liferaft. Some of the photos at www.portlandpudgy.com probably show this better.
Thanks again.

Single line kite. Should be stable once launched

My Guess would be a 5m foil

My Guess would be a 5m foil kite. But you would need to know how to fly it. Thats the problem. If I were in a life raft and had a 5m Hydara on board.... Id like my chances much more.

I've been thinning about

I've been thinning about this. What about a 3 line LEI? Like a 4m. Who's 3rd line attached to the kite? Something simple for a nonkiter to maneuver with simple instructions.

LOL

I would help but it's a long way to go up to Maine.

some of us at masskiting have found other interesting uses for these rafts:

Hi Deb, I copied your post

Hi Deb,
I copied your post and put it on The Southern Maine Kitesurfing group on Facebook. They are much closer to you in Scarborough, Maine and ride at Pine Point beach. You can try to contact Tom Michaud
