My July 4th weekend Megablog

It's been too long since I've blogged. Partly because my life has been a little crazy in the past month with some serious changes, and partly because in that time, I have not been out riding much. Then there is the gear. My old Ozone and my 09 Sport took forever to get back from being repaired. I ordered an new custom Ozone Edge+ kite, but there were problems with the files I sent them and it pushed the production back a few weeks. The new kite will look sick. All black, with a big "Triple Eight Vodka" and "Product of Nantucket" next to 3 big eight balls.

July 4th Weekend Break Through

Well it was about time that we had the perfect combination of wind and weather. Summer finally showed up at our doorstep and I was determined to spend July 4th in a windy spot. I got up at 5:30am slowly pushing myself out of bed after about 15minutes. The goal was to be on the road by 6:15am. I got up slowly and the car was already loaded but I just got into the car after brushing my teeth, deoderized and washed my face. Said my morning prayers asking for wind and for a full day. Hit the road went through the tunnel when I realized I forgot Bob's new bar so I turned around to go get it.

Kiting in Winthrop @ Yirrell Beach

On Saturday a hand full of us went to Yirrell Beach in Winthrop (next to Deer Island) to ride. There wasn't enough wind to ride but we did run into the plover police (DCR & NE Aquarium) representative that monitors and maintains the nesting areas on Revere, Winthrop Beach and Yirrell Beach. She came off asking if we belon to a club and she knew right away that we were kitesurfers. Anyway, we had a pretty good conversation with her as there was no confrontation.

Big Thanks

I just got out of the car from two days of utterly abusing myself. I didn't help plan this weekend at all, but I mooched a fantastic time. I wanted to say some big thank you's to some of the major contributers that I saw.

First off, a big thanks to the Ozone Crew. Pat and Kara were a blast to hang out with, and they drove us around in the Cloud 9 camper. They pumped kites to check out even though there was no wind. We were sad to see them leave on Sunday, but looking forward to a few more days with them up by Boston. They drank out beer. They danced.

New England and wind depression

So we have "sea breezes" but not when it rains Sad

So here I am at work usually excited to head out and down to the cape. But this weekend does not promise wind and to make it worse it looks like rain. I now have to realize that I have another work week before I can be at ease with my addiction.

People recommend I do choirs and get some work done.. "Yeah go to hell!"

I have a brand new surfboard and Boss 12m to rock and no wind...

Why?

Help me....random thoughts of a kite addict...

"I'm skyrocket and I'm an addict!"

Is there a 12 step program for kite addiction?
Maybe we could expand on this topic...

You know you are kite addicted when......

1) You go into a catonic state when trees start to blow..think of the movie
The Happening!

2) You have a petit mal and froth at the mouth when you see white caps.

3) You sleep on a the back porch at Hatteras and actually don't mind.

4) You are excited when a random German knocks your bumper off so you can stay an extra week to kite.

Memorial Day brings in the Season!

So the season is officially on here in New England waters! Last year at this time a group of MASSkiters got together and decided that there was something that made us special in regard to the kiteboarding scene. Prior it seemed that it was hard to know when people were going kiting and for that we had less opportunities to kite with support. We did not have a centralized place to chronicle our epic kite adventures either. But we decided that if we pulled togther as a team we could then start to provide better resources to a new community.

Web site features

I will keep a blog on ways to improve out web user experience.

Number One, I love what you've done with showing the myriad features available to users of masskiting. Can you leave each article up just a little longer so the user has time to read it. Good stuff!

Number Two, when you click on a link, have the new link open in another tab

No wind on Saturdays.

I write this on my trusty iPhone as I take the bus down to the cape. I wish the forecast didn't change. I was excited about riding all week with the way the wind looked. For all of you who didn't hear, I got a good sized tear in my brand new kite while riding at Winthrop the other day. Sucks, but it happens. Now I can send 2 kites off to Florida to get them fixed at the same time. And as if I needed another reason to get a new kite Tongue
