Hatteras after 2 days
What can I say about being here for 2 solid days?
OUCH.
But that's because chris brought 4 bottles of saké and we hit that up last night in true MASSkiting fashion by doing saké bomb after saké bomb. Nothing gets a splitting headache going better than dehydration, sunburn, and saké bombs. Woof. And ouch. I'm typing this on my phone and the screen freakin hurts to stare at.
I'll try to sum the last 2 days.
We arrived here at like 7:30 in the morning and it was blowing. We checked the beach, then the house. House was empty so we parked there and unpacked JDs truck for our gear. I was so freakin psyched I think I was suited up in 8 minutes and JD, Mesa and I were off. Good wind. It was supposed to die off at noon so we wanted our session. I started out on my skim. It was all I carried down to the beach. It was awesome. I think I rode that for like an hour until everyone else filtered to the beach. Oh, btw, for the record, Chris took the shortest route and we still beat him here by ten minutes cause he took a wrong turn late in the game. We ended up catching up 60-80 miles over night. Sweeet. But I'm sure he doesn't care. We were just pissed he could get out there before us.
So. I think everyone was having a great time. We spotted a yellow Rhino coming at us from 2 miles south and it was Kristof. Awesome. He asked anyone if we wanted to grab a beer at his car, and me and JD headed up wind with him for a out 2 miles to kite point. We got there and realized we had not slept, not eaten, not drank ANYTHING in hours. We slugged down some beers and pastries and headed back downwind. With Greg. Oh yeah, we found Greg at kite point! It was blowing good and hard. With big gusts, but going downwind was not a problem with 11s & 12s and Greg flew a 8m Havoc with a surfboard.
We got downwind and I was pretty beat. By then, Shane, TN, and Christian had arrived and were rockin. The rest of the afternoon was kind of a blur. We got keys to the place showered, got pizza, drank High Lifes, and chilled. JD, Shane, and Mesa went our for another session at 7ish. They said it was the best session of the day. I wouldn't know, cause I got in bed at like 7:30 and fell asleep. Jermy out!
Sunday we woke and cooked and headed to the beach. It was fine for an hour and then dropped. Speaking of dropped, a freak oops made my kite drop from the sky and hit some canadians. One with a mohawk started going off on me, but I think he's just pissed about the Bruins. Group evaluation was that he sucked at kiting. So all mohawk bark and no mohawk bite. er kite.
JD had a new light wind board delivered to him and showed us that he could go upwind. But the name "Johnny Downwind" is so much fun to say that we can't really stop. I was going past another launch just north of us and say JimmyC pumping up. Soon to be on the water and ripping it up on his skim. We spotted Holly out there too on a surf board, but she never came close enough to say hi. Our spot had at least 30 mites in the morning. I think more than kite point. People up there mustve thought we had waaay better conditions or something.
The wind picked up and the numbers dwindled. The last few out there were Chris, JD, Christian, Kristif, Victor and myself till about 7:30. I'm so excited to be throwing big backrolls. It feels so good. Front rolls around the corner! This week!!
I'd like to give one paragraph to the mosquitos. They suck and are freakin brutal. But only on the way home. They swarm you like crazy and like 10 can be biting you at a time. And every time I swat one it leaves a giant blood stain. Hey, I need that blood!!
Got home last night and grilled up a feast. Stayed up watching kite videos while saké bombing, and eventuay headed downstairs to the movie room (that's right, our house has a movie room. And an elevator. Which is awesome to pound beers in while going down 3 floors). We watched our daily escapades on video. Btw the new waterproof camera Chris got is awesome. Some funny stuff. It'll get better.
A few more bombs and I was out. And here I am with a headache. Which has slipped away a little bit with the blog therapy. No wind today, but man, I hope that's wrong. Cause Travis shows up today! And pete! Our house will be complete! More later.
I can't believe I wrote this all on an iPhone. K T H X B Y E P Z !!
