Technique : Self-Land
How to Self-Land
Caution: There is always an elevated risk associated with self-landing and self-launching, so whenever possible, do an assisted launch/land. It is never a good idea to kite alone.
Self-Landing, Technique #1
- Make sure you have plenty of downwind space.
- Make sure you are properly leashed to a flag line and kite is at 100% depower.
- Bring the kite down to the edge of the window and let it gently touch the ground on it's wingtip.
- Reach as far up as you can on the upper front line and make a quick pull (or two) and the kite should fall LE down into the wind.
- Unhook and unleash. Run up the front line to the kite and sand it.
Self-Landing, Technique #2
- Put a garbage bag inside your kite bag, and fill it with sand. Attach a carabiner onto your kite bag straps.
- Make sure you have plenty of downwind space.
- Make sure you are leashed to a flag line and kiet is at 100% depower.
- Stand just downwind of your kite bag and bing the kite to the edge of the window so it touches the ground resting on it's tip.
- Let go of the bar so the kite is only on the chicken loop. The kite may move around a little bit but should remain on it's tip.
- After the kite settles and is not moving, unhook from the chicken loop and attach the chicken loop to the carabiner on the kite bag.
- Undo your leash, keep a hand on the upper front line, and run down to the kite.
- Set kite LE down and sand it.
