So on the drive down to Wacky Bay the other day, I was telling Chris and Julian how someone in our group ALWAYS manages to get poison ivy when we go there.

Yup. Ate my own words.

I once went up the creek at high tide at wack bay (which your not supposed to do cause it's bird territory..i didn't know that then..so no one else do it!) and lost my kite. It flew about 30' back into the bushes and I had to go in and fetch it in my shorts and t shirt with no boots..it was summer. the combination of thorns and poison ivy was truly evil. I spent about 45 minutes wrigglin in the thorns to extract my kite and getting ivy smeared all over me..i was a wreck for weeks..luckily i'm not very allergic to the stuff or i would have died.

I should have just left it..or at least come back with full protection. That why I hardly veer go there any more

hey why is my pic that other jemry guy..i don't want to be him! do have to post a pic to be myslef

How to avoid poison ivy then?

Hi,

Waquoit Bay is my favorite spot. I went there mostly last year but did not get a run in with poison ivy and would like to keep it that way.

Do you guys have tips on how to avoid the poison ivy there? Where the poison ivy are generally located? I go there, I usually park in the wooded far corner second parking lot, stay on the trail path to walk out to the launching area. I hope that would still be safe.

Most of the time I am in my short wetsuit, perhaps that help.

Check out the Wacky Bay beach

Check out the Wacky Bay beach page.... there's a picture of it.

I had my wetsuit on the whole time, so it must've happened near the car. Which was right where you said you parked. Which someone told us that was a bad spot to park cause they ike to kep that gate "un blocked"

If you think you might have

If you think you might have gotten exposed to poison ivy, the best solution that I know of is Tecnau soap. You can get it at CVS, Walgreens, etc.

It can break down and wash away the irritating oils that cause the rash.

I keep some in my outside shower.

Slow year

I guess cause of the weather it's been a slow year for the poison ivy count.

That's a good pic. Easiest way to remember it, 3 leaves, shiny, sometimes a little reddish.

Count on!

Poison Ivy Rule

When I'm walking down that path over there I make it a point never to touch any spaded shaped leaves. WB has it all over the place and when I am finished on my way home I stop over at the Mobile station at the circle an wash my legs, hands and arms in the bathroom. Don't forget that you can still get poison ivy from the grass that rubs against it in the winds.

wash with sea water?

Is is possible to wash off the Poison Ivy with salt/sea water after your session to prevent any possible contact that you might have had with the leaves? I usually do this after my session right on the beach.

Poison Ivy

I get this so bad and had no idea what it looked like until a year ago. Then once I realized I could not believe how often I have been able to avoid it. No wonder I always got it. Look at that link and realize that only you can prevent getting this crap all over yourself Smile
