Saratoga Springs Snowkite Fly In
An informal snowkite gathering is planned for Saratoga Lake , Saratoga Springs NY February 18 and 19. The Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau is in contact with the Polo club to see if we can use that site in addition to the main site at the north end of Saratoga lake. Also a state boat launch at Great Sacandaga is 24miles away so there should be enough choices for a good time. Book rooms early if staying overnight as there is a big event in town "Dance Flurry". See discoversaratoga.org for more details. I will post more details as they become available.
crazy freaking winter
Info from other forum ......
Just spoke to Patrick (snowspider) and he has called of the event off. He kited today and the conditions were not great and doesn't want people to make the trip for so so conditions.
There is open water in the middle of the lake and he is worried that someone might get blown into it. The surface on the northern portion of the lake is ride-able, but has a 1/2 inch of slush on it. The wind forecast for Saturday is for light winds and a chance of rain at night.
If anyone still want to go they can, but the proposed parking spot won't work; it is near open water. You can find parking on Fitch rd on 9P.
I am a maybe as well, let's see how the wind reports shape up! Thanks for putting this together!
Cheers!
Joe
Fun! I'm a definite maybe.
No kitestorm... this is the next best thing. less driving, and Saratoga has a bunch of cool stuff to do.
I'm going to try to make it out there for this... I know Christo from KiteClubNY mentioned he'd have a crew there, as well as the HQ guys from Hatteras. Lets hope for more wind and snow!
I like the idea, I still think we should organize an event on Lake Winni one of these years....

Obtained permission to park at Lee's trailer park on route 9P just south of the bridge that crosses the Saratoga Lake outlet. The owner Mary will keep it plowed out and is charging $5 to park , please fill this place first. There is also limited parking at the boat launch and we can use the Saratoga Rowing Assoc. parking lot on the north side of the bridge , just dont park directly in front of their building.
Saratoga City Tavern in the downtown area has plenty of room to get us together on their main floor if we get there before 7pm. I gave them a guestimate of 20-30 people. If needed they also rent an upper floor area for $50/hour. My guess is if enough people show up they would allow us to move to any open space for free.
Sometime this winter its going to snow , hopefully it will be the weekend of Feb. 18-19
It also looks like there is enough going on in and around the city for non-kiters to have fun too.
Weather willing it should be a fun place to kite.
