What do people think is the best video editing software out there? I haven't really used much other than Windows Movie Maker, but with my new HD video cam, and hundreds of clips from the Hatteras trip, i figured id ask and get some opinions before just randomly trying some out. I noticed some free video software out there that looks decent, Wax, for example. any advice would be appreciated. thanks. (I'm using Windows XP.)

Editing software

With Windows XP, I recommend Avid Media Composer. A bit of a learning curve, but worth the effort.

I concur

I'm going to agree with Spatsy that Adobe Premiere CS3 or CS4 would be your best bet. As far intuitiveness and power I think you'll find Premiere has a very user friendly interface and can do everything you need and more. It can take a little while to get comfortable with it but that's the same with any editing software. Also, if you're computer savvy you should be able to find it for Free-Ninety-Nine if you so choose.

For mac iMovie made the concept fun enough to understand how soundtrack an clips get laid on a timeline. I also think it's the fastest way without complication. Cutting a bid fir 3 hours beats 8 hours unless you are solid on the reason for the extra effort. I know you have pc so I'll give you pemiere cs3. But it's like homer Simpson running a powerplant. In reality it's just a pain in the ass fir your purpose. But as others are saying it will be wirth it if your into it. But as a editing newb you loose the obvious parts of laying clips, trimming them, and addind effects. You get a bit list with 80% of noise and features and adobe specific icons and stuff. But you used movie maker and that gives you the essence to learn. No plug and play! Allot of knowing how to manage files, where they are stored ect
