Adding Straps to a Surfboard?

DIY Kitesurf: I'm hoping to find a small used surfboard and add some old windsurfing footstraps...wondering if this will work or the straps will just tear out. I plan to use big stainless screws and epoxy or 3M 5200 marine adhesive.

Anyone ever tried this?

I've been thinking about doing this with my old shortboard as well. RRD makes straps that are meant to convert a surfboard into a kiteboard. Just did a quick search and found these:
