I'm probably going to the Bahamas at the end of June and stay at Atlantis resort. Has anyone ever tried to kite near there? I went a long time ago before I kited and I know alot has changed. Anyone have any advice or tips???

Yes...

I stayed there about 7 years ago for 5 days during school vacation week in February and give it a big thumbs down. Very big and impersonal. The pool areas are crowded and the seating pool side seemed "competitive" with people staking out their piece of the pool deck before anyone on vacation should be up.
I also had a really crappy experience there where I had series of problems with my bill. The first included having other guest's dinner tabs appear on my room charges and the second included charges showing up on my card for three extra nights stay. I had to get into a big pissing contest with their billing office in the USA to get the charges removed from my bill that included having to show proof that I had left the island for the nights in question. I short, it would be among the last places I would pay to visit. I am sure I had an unusually bad experience but given that there are so many other good places to go I would not recommend it.
Pluses are the fish tanks are spectacular, the gambling / casinos look decent and the water slides are fun.
I tend to keep my mouth shut with regard to less than optimal experiences. In this case I feel compelled to serve warning. Also, please accept my apology for this post not being completely on point. I still feel the need to vent.
As for kiting, it was not windy while I was there and I have not considered it since my experience.

Good Experience

To contrast the negative experience, I went 5 years ago after they had opened up the new water slides and rapids, and had a great experience. The place is definitely massive and impersonal, I usually prefer a small local beachfront hotel, but they also have some really cool things to do and see.

Unfortunately I wasn't a kiter back then and didn't keep my eyes open for a launch. I'm sure there are places near by but you'd probably have to take a cab or rent a car. I can't imagine there are any launches right in front of the mega resort.

Good experience

I was there in '08 and had a great experience. There are lots of little kids, definitely a family oriented resort if that's what you're looking for - probably wouldn't go back because on that. Good beaches, great live reggae at night...but things wound down around 9:30-10 at the resort.

We did see one kiter on the beach by "The Cove Hotel" at Atlantis. This is the private, adults only (I think) beach around the corner from the main beach. We walked over there almost everyday and no one ever gave us a hard time. It didn't look like there was anywhere to rent gear...

Enjoy
