Beginner looking for help in Revere tomorrow...

Hi everyone! As my subject line states, I'm a beginner trying to get out and practice since I'm certainly not going to get any better with my kite packed up in my closet... Tongue

For reference, I took a couple of lessons in Hatteras this past May to the point where I could ALMOST get up and ride, but I tend to just fall back into the water. I'm really looking to change that soon!

Anyways, I was wondering if there were any other beginners that wanted to meet up, or even any masochistic people who actually know what they're doing! Wink I was thinking of meeting up at Revere Beach around 6 or so, although I'm pretty flexible on this and it will obviously be weather dependent...

...probably not Revere

They are forecasting a SW wind at Revere for the late afternoon Fri 07/16. This could be a few degrees offshore and therefore probably not a good idea. So far it seems to me that the friendliest kite spot tomorrow afternoon will be Waquoit Bay down the cape. I'm planning on getting down there around 2pm along with another fellow beginner and I doubt we will be the only ones.

Yeah, I had noticed the wind

Yeah, I had noticed the wind direction, but I guess since I never seem to get very far I assumed it wouldn't be too much of an issue as long as it wasn't really offshore...

While I'd love to go down to the Cape, I really don't have the time for that kind of trip tomorrow; sounds fun though! Smile

You assumed wrong

You assumed wrong KiterChick.....do not go out in side off or off shore winds (especially if your a beginner). Be patient and wait for a day with the proper wind direction or make time to drive down to the cape.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I assumed it would be fine to go out in offshore winds, but rather that given the way that Revere Beach bends that I thought that SW winds would not really be offshore. At the same time I definitely agree that it's not the most optimal direction, and I will probably just end up being patient and going another time...

Dog Beach at mid-low tide this afternoon

Might try Dog Beach (Nahant) at mid-low tide at that time.
I may be there myself

Something to consider

Kiterchick, I am a local instructor for Revere Beach and I've been riding there for since 1998 and SW can work at the point of pine sand bar at low tide but it will be gusty and holey unless you get out into the channel and do your riding there but there are boats crossing and you would have to do a down winder to Doggy beach Nahant which is a long walk back to revere. I'd advise against that but as I have kited in Revere I have seen SW predicted winds actually be SSE winds that are always unpredicted there. Revere has a unique effect on that thermal from the SSW so maybe it wouldn't be bad for you to go there to see if the wind is side on-shore. If it is not then don't bother putting up your kite. Furthermore I heard severe thunderstorms on the way for the afternoon. I get out of work at 4 and will make my way to Revere Beach from work. If it is good I will be around kiting and you can ask me for pointers etc but don't do this by yourself in uncertain conditions unless there is another kiter around that is familiar with Revere Beach.

If there is a good SW kicking

If there is a good SW kicking (or even a hint there might be) stop by Pleasure Bay and meet a few local riders.

There is a birthday party for a local kiter tonight, and anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and spend some time with local kiters.

Unfortunately since the

Unfortunately since the weather forecast was looking iffy as far as T-storms go this morning I didn't drive in so I don't have any of my gear with me. I'm leaving for a ski camp in BC this weekend and am hopefully scheduled for a lesson in Squamish on my day off while I'm out there so hopefully I'll come back with a bit more kiting knowledge and can meet up then. Thanks for all the replies though, I'm really excited to start getting in some local kiting when I return! Smile
