"Beginners in Boston" Practice Group
Hi everybody,
I'm a beginner kiteboarder looking for others in the area to practice with. The closest beaches to me are Nahant and Revere.
I'm really enthused about the sport and want to get out on the water as much as possible. Weekends as well as workday evenings are game for me.
Let me know if you need a practice buddy. I am open to car pool as well if you need a ride.
If you're close to Revere then you're all set. Revere is the best practice beach we have in Boston. Very large and lots of room. Just watch for wind anywhere South around East to NE and you'll be sure to find people riding there. Just ask any questions you have to the group.
Just remember the more time you have flying the kite the faster you will progress in the water.
New too, let me know anytime you go out...I'd love to come!
Yea, look out for me too. I will hit the same beaches anytime there is wind. I can make it happen most of the time as I have my own business. Just gone for couple of weeks end of June beginning of August. Otherwise I will try to get as much water time as possible (whatever the family can take).
I'm new too. Only been out a handful of times, but let me know when the "beginners" group gets together.
Wednesday and Thursday looks good. I will watch the wind but plan on Dog Beach on Wednesday late afternoon when the tide starts coming in again.
Definitely in for Dog beach tomorrow. See all the newbies there...
Guys - read this before going to Dog Beach. http://masskiting.com/kiteboarding-forum/knowing-dog-beach-knowing-your-...
Looking like Thursday will be the better day for Dog Beach. Gonna pass on today so I can go tomorrow...
I am new too... I learned how to kite in Boracay. Dumb question, but anyone know where I can rent equipment and a wetsuit?? I am down to go this weekend or anyday next week...
Unfortunately no one rents equipment in the area. Actually the only place I ever saw that rented kites was in St Maarten. If you plan on getting into it this summer, it will definitely be best for you to buy some used gear. There are a lot of Kites for sale here on the forum and you will save a ton of money over new stuff. I have a 15 m for sale but that is going to be too big for you on most days. Check with Skipper I know he is selling off his school kites.
If you can ride a bit I would imagine there are people on here that will let you borrow an old kite when they head out.

We should do a BBQ somewhere on a week night to get some peeps together. anyone interested?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok... any ideas on where? a backyard? or are there grills near P-Bay or one of the other kitespots?
i have a yard and am by pbay...
ok... anyone wanna bbq at Shane's?
I live near Revere Beach and have a nice sized backyard. Oh yeah I own a gas grill so we can cook out there.
so i live around the southern nh area by 93. is there anyone that lives around here that is just starting out. im looking for someone to ride with that is local around here.
I'm in Acton, MA and just getting back to kiting after 5 months off due to snowboarding injury..
Feel free to reach out if you want to have a sesh.. I usually hit the cape a lot
Cya
I'm in Peabody. I just got my first successfull session in this friday. I try to swing by Revere/Nahant/Dog Beach.
I would be interested in trying other spots... up north?
(Waquoit is cool, but a little far)
-Scott
beginner here too but i'm on cape cod. If I plan it right I could go somewhere northshore after work since I work in the city. I only have a 12 so I am limited to certian winds.
New Kiter as Well
I live in CT but I am always looking to get out and practice. RI, CT, upper Cape all "doable". Anyone else interested in those areas give me a shout
my forecast for Sunday is 2-1 Germany.
I can host a weekday afternoon or early evening bbq at my place. We just need to decide on a date that works for everyone.
Hey sl sorry to jump on this so late in the game. I literally just kicked off my kiting this past weekend and am looking for people to just learn from watching if nothing more.
I live in M'head (like 10 Mina from Nahant) and would be hallu to host a g2g post beach day if anyone's interested. Also as a surfer I take a lot of trips up to the wall/ Hampton beAch- not sure what te kiting like there, but I always enjoy the ride company.
Peace,
mara

I am a beginner also, I live in western MA and work in Windsor, CT so weekday sessions are a little hard for me unless they are in CT coast or I get out early. But I have such an addiction, that I have driven a total of 4 hours (to and from) just to check out a beach in the past
Has this gotten going yet? We should def get a bbq together. Southie any thoughts on a good date for you? Maybe post a separate forum topic? I would be down help in anyway I can just let me know.
I could marinate some meat with this "Spiedie" sauce that I got in NY.
That is a sweet idea. I'll have to talk to JohnnyD about that, he will probably need to change some permissions around to let users do that. But it will definitely make it easier to get sessions planned...
you can PM people, and as they reply, you get email notices... just a thought.
Also... there is our section called "session invites" that everyone should post in. if you have time, check in. has worked for us for years. we can make a "noob" section if that's desired.
The site is an interactive email thread and newbs join often so would be hard to identify them for a email list. If we did email that would save me allot of development and expense
But its great that you pointed this out so that we can be sure to improve if necessary. I suggest going to "create forum topic" select "session invites" and in the subject write something like "Beginner meetup 6/2 Nahant Beach" Once its up yo can see it from the top of the Dashboard page.
Problem is also that these things rely on wind and really are play it by ear. Also some people go in and out of responsibilities and often last minute can break free. So by staying current on MASSkiting you at any time can see where people are or are going. Also that helps the newb that just joined or may have not yet enrolled but is watching. Really though there are general spots you woukld want to go and really will find people there when you arrive. The shout box is a fast dirty way to say "Im going to right now..."
Try the invite section and let me know if its not visible enough. Jermy and I have been busy on a redesign to improve the sites layout and we will keep it in mind to make sure "invites" are displayed in a good location.
Hey Now, Please count me in - need to work on self-landing and staying upwind! Revere, P-Bay and surrounding areas are best for me - Need enough wind to power an 11M T-2 - Thanks!
Hey everyone. I'm fairly new too, and looking to get out a bunch in the near future. Let me know when you guys are headed out there. Seems like we have some hot, windless days in front of us for a bit, but the wind will hopefully come soon.
Cheers!
Just got my 1st kite yesterday-woohoo- 08 OZone 13 m
I was doing some body draggin last year, but haven't been out yet this year. Trying to take a lesson, but the wind hasn't been so cooperative. Definitely want to meet up with some newbie's so we can watch each others back. Any veterans willing to yell at me for doing something stupid is much appreciated as well. =)
I live in Southern MA. Can be in the boston area with in 30. West Dennis or Waquoit with 45-hour
Kiters Night Out - Tonight (Friday 7/16)@ 10PM Whiskey's in Boston.
Looks like I will be in Boston Area next week.
Would love to try to get a session at Waqoit if there wind on Monday cause its super awesome... My work sched is prob going to force more local riding like Revere for the rest of the week.
Happy to head out with the newbies. Wasn't long ago I needed a hand and people were always there to help me out.

Hey Guys,
I know this is a super old thread but I thought I'd bring it back for any new kiters. I'm looking for a beginner crew to practice with. I'd like to get a group together for Revere, as it's supposed to be best for noobs. I've only kited on the Vineyard so it's still all foreign to me.
I'm looking to log some serious hours on my kite as long as the winds are right.
Anyone else in a similar situation and want to get a new group going?
-Cam-
Cam,
I'm new as well. Two lessons under my belt and just trying to get water starts mastered. I live in Salem so Revere is great. It would be great to start getting all the noobs together so we can fail together and learn from each other.
Text me, 339-440-3974 or email, emongeau@gmail.com

Guys,
I am new as well.
Looking forward meeting you at Revere soon.

I'm in! I have a couple weeks experience, but just got my own gear and I'm looking to launch soon. Sounds like Revere will be the place. This week looks light, but if there's a good afternoon, I'll try to make it.
Cheers,
Craig
Thats an awesome idea! I havent been out since last year... I'm definitelly down for a sesh anytime after 4pm on week days and anytime on weekends. I just need enough wind to power up a 13m...
I'm coming out of foxboro. Hit me up if you need a ride or something. 774-240-4181 or renoirlucena@hotmail.com
All Right.
Sounds like we got a good group going. My number is 781-708-1575 email cambrown09@gmail.com. I'm usually good for afternoons as well and live in Southie. I fly a 12m. I'll keep an eye out for the wind and text you all next time I'm headed up there. Likewise if someone sees a good opportunity, let me know about it!
There's gonna be some serious carnage out there with all of us noobs on the water! hahaha.
Hey Everyone,
Count me in on the beginner practice sessions. I'm down for going anywhere.

Maybe someone can send out a mass email/text next time the winds looking good for Revere and we can all meet up.
-Justin
Would East cambridge or somewhere downtown be on someones way to Revere?
My roommate is a beginner as well, so that would be great if you could pick him up at a T-stop or sth.... plus i would love to join as well

Great to see a bunch of other enthusiastic newbies like myself. I'm excited to get out there and would love to come out tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to hit up Dog Beach with you guys as I'm nursing a nasty little slice I got on my foot over the weekend.(note to self: get surf booties!)
Good luck! Hope you get great wind!
