Hi everybody,

I'm a beginner kiteboarder looking for others in the area to practice with. The closest beaches to me are Nahant and Revere.

I'm really enthused about the sport and want to get out on the water as much as possible. Weekends as well as workday evenings are game for me.

Let me know if you need a practice buddy. I am open to car pool as well if you need a ride.

If you're close to Revere

If you're close to Revere then you're all set. Revere is the best practice beach we have in Boston. Very large and lots of room. Just watch for wind anywhere South around East to NE and you'll be sure to find people riding there. Just ask any questions you have to the group.

Just remember the more time you have flying the kite the faster you will progress in the water.

Yea, look out for me too. I will hit the same beaches anytime there is wind. I can make it happen most of the time as I have my own business. Just gone for couple of weeks end of June beginning of August. Otherwise I will try to get as much water time as possible (whatever the family can take).

Great to see a bunch of other enthusiastic newbies like myself. I'm excited to get out there and would love to come out tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to hit up Dog Beach with you guys as I'm nursing a nasty little slice I got on my foot over the weekend.(note to self: get surf booties!)

Good luck! Hope you get great wind!

Unfortunately no one rents

Unfortunately no one rents equipment in the area. Actually the only place I ever saw that rented kites was in St Maarten. If you plan on getting into it this summer, it will definitely be best for you to buy some used gear. There are a lot of Kites for sale here on the forum and you will save a ton of money over new stuff. I have a 15 m for sale but that is going to be too big for you on most days. Check with Skipper I know he is selling off his school kites.

If you can ride a bit I would imagine there are people on here that will let you borrow an old kite when they head out.

My Place,

I live near Revere Beach and have a nice sized backyard. Oh yeah I own a gas grill so we can cook out there.

I would be interested in trying other spots... up north?

I like the idea of a beginner

I like the idea of a beginner bbq. If someone wants to volunteer their place to host, we could all bring stuff potluck style. We could always just set up to meet at a bar in Boston or something like that.

Anybody know what the forecast is looking like for Sunday?

Noob sessions meetups

Hey sl sorry to jump on this so late in the game. I literally just kicked off my kiting this past weekend and am looking for people to just learn from watching if nothing more.

I live in M'head (like 10 Mina from Nahant) and would be hallu to host a g2g post beach day if anyone's interested. Also as a surfer I take a lot of trips up to the wall/ Hampton beAch- not sure what te kiting like there, but I always enjoy the ride company.

Peace,

mara

I am a beginner also, I live

I am a beginner also, I live in western MA and work in Windsor, CT so weekday sessions are a little hard for me unless they are in CT coast or I get out early. But I have such an addiction, that I have driven a total of 4 hours (to and from) just to check out a beach in the past

Beginner E-mail Chain

Here's my idea: An mass e-mail system whereby if any one of us has a kite sesssion planned or something, they can send out one e-mail that would be received by all the beginners on the list. That way we are all on the same page and it'll be easier to find practice partners.

I don't know if there is a way to do that within this site. If anyone knows, speak up. If not, lets just collect e-mail addresses and I'll create the list.

Sound good?

That is a sweet idea. I'll have to talk to JohnnyD about that, he will probably need to change some permissions around to let users do that. But it will definitely make it easier to get sessions planned...

you can PM people, and as

you can PM people, and as they reply, you get email notices... just a thought.

Also... there is our section called "session invites" that everyone should post in. if you have time, check in. has worked for us for years. we can make a "noob" section if that's desired.

The site is an interactive

The site is an interactive email thread and newbs join often so would be hard to identify them for a email list. If we did email that would save me allot of development and expense Smile

But its great that you pointed this out so that we can be sure to improve if necessary. I suggest going to "create forum topic" select "session invites" and in the subject write something like "Beginner meetup 6/2 Nahant Beach" Once its up yo can see it from the top of the Dashboard page.

Problem is also that these things rely on wind and really are play it by ear. Also some people go in and out of responsibilities and often last minute can break free. So by staying current on MASSkiting you at any time can see where people are or are going. Also that helps the newb that just joined or may have not yet enrolled but is watching. Really though there are general spots you woukld want to go and really will find people there when you arrive. The shout box is a fast dirty way to say "Im going to right now..."

Try the invite section and let me know if its not visible enough. Jermy and I have been busy on a redesign to improve the sites layout and we will keep it in mind to make sure "invites" are displayed in a good location.

More kiting, more fun!

Hey everyone. I'm fairly new too, and looking to get out a bunch in the near future. Let me know when you guys are headed out there. Seems like we have some hot, windless days in front of us for a bit, but the wind will hopefully come soon.

Cheers!

Saturday 7/17/10

Who is kiting this Saturday? I'm looking at the wind forecast and it looks like it might get blowing up to 15 knots in some areas. (As a newbie I have to say that one of the hardest parts of this sport is just being able to know the weather and wind so that you know where and when to go.)

If anyone has that expertise to say which beach will be the best spot this weekend, let me know, I'm down. If anyone needs I ride I can help you out too.

P.S.: I will also work more diligently to get some kind of "beginners get together / meet & greet" off the ground.

Where is everyone looking at for the weekend? or is the wind supposed to be too crappy for anything.

I was thinking about Waquoit for Sat but it seems it might be too light to risk the long drive out there. Maybe I'll hold off until Sunday and hope conditions improve.

2011 Beginner Revival?

Hey Guys,

I know this is a super old thread but I thought I'd bring it back for any new kiters. I'm looking for a beginner crew to practice with. I'd like to get a group together for Revere, as it's supposed to be best for noobs. I've only kited on the Vineyard so it's still all foreign to me.

I'm looking to log some serious hours on my kite as long as the winds are right.

Anyone else in a similar situation and want to get a new group going?

Cam,
I'm new as well. Two lessons under my belt and just trying to get water starts mastered. I live in Salem so Revere is great. It would be great to start getting all the noobs together so we can fail together and learn from each other.

I'm in! I have a couple weeks experience, but just got my own gear and I'm looking to launch soon. Sounds like Revere will be the place. This week looks light, but if there's a good afternoon, I'll try to make it.

Awesome

All Right.

Sounds like we got a good group going. My number is 781-708-1575 email cambrown09@gmail.com. I'm usually good for afternoons as well and live in Southie. I fly a 12m. I'll keep an eye out for the wind and text you all next time I'm headed up there. Likewise if someone sees a good opportunity, let me know about it!

There's gonna be some serious carnage out there with all of us noobs on the water! hahaha.
