I'm looking into buying a slingshot sx 141cm x 40cm.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should be looking for when buying a used board (condition, excepted price, ect). Also, any recommendation as to what size/style boards I should maybe be looking for, I'd really appreciate the advice =)

Keep an eye out for any

Keep an eye out for any cracks, dents, or deep scratches (down to the core).

What year is the SX? 141 is a good beginner size....I wouldn't go much bigger than 145cm. The boards marketed towards beginners are trash....most people grow out of them in a few months and end up getting a new board.

Whats your weight? (that plays a big role in board choice)

You want something with a little bit of rocker to help cut through chop. Extra width also helps for early plaining and stability. Flex patterns and concave are going to be more about personal preferance and won't play a huge role at the moment.

Hey, if you like slingshot

Hey, if you like slingshot you should check out the glide. All slingshot boards are basically laminated and constructed in the same manner and the slingshot glide is awesome and its got sick graphics. Its great for learning because you pop right up because of its size, and if you were to grow out of it it makes a great lightwind board. Airsupport stocks them and you can find their contact information at www.kitecod.com

Glide and SX

I have the glide and the SX. The glide is a great light wind board, but the fins are less than an inch deep which means when its blowing harder you just skip over the top of the water. Because it is a light wind board, its not really made for chop or for edging hard. When you edge hard the water hits your shins with force and can screw you up. The sx is a 141. Its big and heavy and doesnt have a side rail. I have never really liked it and keep it around just in case i break my main board. I have used a combination of crazyfly buldozer and the glide as the two boards that i bring to the beach every session for about a yr and a half and they cover all conditions. Good luck.

Spend some money on a good board

My recommendation is spending a good amount of money for a good board that you can grow into not one that you'll out grow. I don't know much about the Slingshot SX boards but I've known people who have riddent them over the years and never complained.

Cabrinha Prodigy 158

See if you can find a Cabrinha Prodigy 158 cm anywhere. Old ones are fine. Great beginner board and awesome for light wind once you learn to ride better. I still have mine, and don't think I'll ever sell it. It will become a great second board for you, once you progress, to let your friends use or when ur trying to ride in 13-14 mph.

Lools like Paul was selling his back in April. You could see if he still has it.

LAU, Def take him up on that

LAU, Def take him up on that offer IMO. There will be days you will need a big board.

I feel like everyone has

I feel like everyone has there own preference on this type of thing. So much of it comes down to the first time you try a board and how that session goes which is obviously dependent on wind and water conditions as well as your skill level.

Personally I have always bought the Crazy Fly boards and loved them. Have tried the Nobile boards and liked those as well. Anytime I have borrowed a lower end board I have never been happy. On the flip side I have let many people borrow my boards and they have immediately noticed the difference in construction and performance. If you are going to drop a lot of coin on a board you should see if you can demo it first and make sure your actually buying a high quality board not just an overpriced brand name.

Just my two cents but sure you will be happy with whatever you get!

Thanks again

I think a 158 really will be too big for me. But I want to buy something soon. It looks like the slingshot I was looking into has already sold. I would prefer to keep the size around 141-143. But I'm not looking to do tricks. Just want to get up riding and be comfortable.

Not sure what size you are,

Not sure what size you are, but I'm 5'6 and 120lbs and I have a Liquid Force Proof 151. I just finally got up and riding on Sunday so I'm clearly quite the beginner, but just wanted to throw it out there for consideration that you can be small and not be completely overwhelmed by a bigger board...
