Warning

Any form of kiting is highly addictive. Do not participate in this sport if you are having difficulties at work, school, with your marriage or family. You will feel the addiction after your first trainer kite session. It will leave you with the need for more. Feeling the power of a big kite and the adrenaline high that comes with the act will deepen the addiction. Once kite riding, you will spend countless hours watching weather reports and fabricating your own weather predictions. You will spend excessive late night hours on kite forums. You will begin spending a large sum of money on kites, boards, and gas. You will alienate yourself from the general population with your constant kite chatter with few people to understand your addiction. Participate in this sport only if you have a strong constitution.

On 4/20 we began the community challenge to complete as a team the 12 steps of kiteboarding to seek serenity and peace with our addiction.

Today we are currently working Step: 1

1. We admitted we were powerless over kiteboarding—that our lives had become unmanageable.

Hi, my name is Mike and I am

Hi, my name is Mike and I am also a kiteaholic. I peruse ebay on a hourly basis looking for gear that I most likely don't need. So much so that I even complained about the non-kiteboarding related kiddie kites that some jack*ss always lists under the kitesurfing category. I realized I first had a problem when I suddenly found myself with not 1 but 2, 12m kites. I'm obsessed with the weather and wind patterns. I get mad at ikite a lot but I keep using it. I waste countless hours on a variety of kite specific forums. I text "Any wind?" more than any other text. Yup, if you live, sleep and breath it then ya might have an addiction. BTW, I'm looking for a 3rd board? Anyone? Smile

Yeah....

The T-shirt, "kiting saved my life on the front and kiting wrecked my life" on the back about sums it up!

Could be worse things to be addicted to....crack for one.

1st step admittance

I think we should as a community we should leverage other communities and borrow there expertise. I think we should start one step at a time. Maybe we can identify how the 12 steps of AA can be translated into better mitigation of oure kiteboarding addictions as it affects our lives and sanity.

1. We admitted we were powerless over kiteboarding—that our lives had become unmanageable.

Hi, I m John and I too am powerless over kiteboarding and have found that my life is unmanagable with my addiction. The 1st step is that I have admitted it. I think we all should take a moment to realize that we are fucked... Lets work the steps together.... You try.. it just helps to get it out... We are all here to listen.

For this step I find that its hard to plan my life. Weekends are all wind dependent and I can never plan anything. I sit at work and wish I was able to kite. I get the shakes when there is no wind. How can god make me go a second week before a second weekend. I just feel anxious like I am missing something. Its so hard to live this way and I just keep lying to myself that it will get better and hide saying everyone else is ok with it...

I'm in denial

Hey, I've got all the same feelings as you guys, think about kiting every day even though I only go once/week. But I deny that it's a problem!

Anticipation of the weekend is what gets me out of bed every day. The sick part is that I have nothing else in my life that excites me as much. This is what happens when you've been married for two hundred years and sex loses it's mystery.

Hi, my name is Jamie and I am also a kiteaholic.

I have only managed to get up and ride once and it was over a month ago. It seams like every time the wind is blowing I have to work. Even on weekends. I honestly check the wind conditions even when I know there is no wind and when I know I have to work. My wife thinks I am crazy.

This fealing of wind anxiety does go away? Right?
