Dog Beach/Crazy dog-walker
I was kiting with a friend at dog beach today. He started to set up his lines, when he was approached by some guy with a dog who started to shout at him right away. So apparently his dog is a little psycho and is afraid of kites. And since he's a local and paying the local taxes he should have the priority over us non-local kiters. So in short, we should leave so that he can unleash his dog.
This very one-sided "discussion" went on for 15 minutes or so where he also started to shout at me as well... Anyway, he wants to file a petition to ban kiting from that beach. (He also claimed it's a town beach, not a public beach).
What's our standing with the community of Nahant? I never heard any complaints before, moreover dog walkers usually enjoy watching us out there.
Good thing his dog isn't afraid of water, would be hard to ban the water from the beach...
This guy made a mediocre session even worse...
I was there today as well. Fortunately I didn't have to interact with the guy. I do recall running into this guy. I'm guessing a year or so ago and he was a bit aggressive. I don't see any signs about being a private beach. I would certainly respect the locals if it were a private beach. Does anyone have any info regarding the launch? I've been kiting there for 2+ years and never had any issues.

Not that it helps with your situation but the crazy guy yelling at you can be fined for not having his dog leashed.
Also, for the record, I have two lovely dogs and I think they can be a great addition to your household.
i would politely tell him that if he would stop arguing for a few minutes that you would gladly get on the water and out of his way.
The next Masskiting shirt should say: "Don't Ban Me Bro"
People are strange, I had a guy yell at me like that once at Pleasure Bay. He was a fisherman. It can only be attributed to mental illness.
Certainly there have been towns which have been aggressive about limiting access to residents only, but I've only seen it enforced surrounding automobile parking. If you're walking to dog beach, I think you own it.
My parents used to live in nahant for 4 years. It's my understanding that all of the beaches are 100% public. How they restrict them is there is no public parking in most of Nahant. Thus, we walk to dog.
People suck. Wish I was there to tell him off.
I have had dogs all my life, we are on our 5th and 6th german shepards now but have had no less than 12 dogs in my 47 years. It has been my experiance that there are no stupid dogs only stupid owners. The dog you talk of is only a product of its owner (a compleate idiot even without meeting him) a dog has some instinctive traits, like taking a dump and pissing on our kites but the rest is all the owner. We spend alot of time at OOB and dogs are welcome there so there is alot of dog and owner interacton and every stupid dog is leashed to a stupid owner!!
For most part, problem dogs are the result of problem owners.
Is this a guy with a little black dog? I know his dog is afraid of kites but too bad. It's not our fault that he has a pussy(cat) trapped in a dogs body. Bugs and I will happily trample them! woof!woof!
Paul just bring Bugsy down as he likes to hump anything that walks on four legs! That will keep the little dog occupied while we kite!
There is always that guy on the train that seems a bit crazy so you steer clear. No sense trying to start a conversation to fix him or offer shoulder. This is the same thing. Nice to know 98% of the people support and a few are so crazed about it. Likely they are crazy about allot of things and for our sake they prob struggle to make any argument. I am sure they are just as socially awkward and likely scare more people trying to get support. Its best NOT to engage. One witty remark turns back and forth in a circle. I suggest asking him to keep his/her distance as if they are the problem and ignore. God forbid the guy goes psycho I would love to hear his position to the police about his beach struggle to blows. If you answer back you will feel horrible all day that your comedic rebuttal might not go your way abnd you wish you had said x,y,z. If you ignore you send he or she into rage and it becomes laughable. That should allow you to move on and kite so that your not all worked up like you had a fight. My 2 cents don't try to change anyone...
I've been kiting there for years and it is the old man who used to have a little black dog called Mimi. Last year he went off on a kiter saying the same thing but his dog was not scared from the kites. That's just a lie. I was just watching the incident nearby and he came up to me "what are you looking at?" he asked. I told him he's nuts. He just doesn't like sharing the beach but if anyone says anything about Nahant beaches being for Nahant residents only you can remind them of the MA State Taxpayer funded renovation and maintenance of the only causeway out to Nahant that YOUR tax dollars pay for. The old man used to be alright when there were just a handful of us but with the influx of kiters and commercial operations it's likely that this debate has come up in town meetings.
