Epic Kites
It sounds like a lot of folks had a opportunity to demo Epic kites in Hatteras this spring and perhaps at other spots. I'm looking to add a smaller kite to my collection and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a 6m Renegade vs. a 7m Screamer for a 180 lb. intermediate kiter. I'm really just starting to jump, and would love to eventually kite in the waves, but realistically am not quite there yet. Thanks in advance!
Renegade
Hey man Renegade for sure. Its slightly smaller but has basically the same power. Its a more forgiving kite compared to the 7m screamer but still has great boost and hangtime. The renegade is also the more all around and wave kite of their line up. They just came out with their 3g (2012) kites so the 2011s will be cheap very soon if not already. If you are really trying to save cash Dimitri may even still have a 2010 hanging around. If you want more details send me a PM. There are a lot of good kites out there, I happen to love the Epic's but there are other great brands. I would always suggest flying before you buy if possible.
Eric, when do you think the 2012s are coming out?
They are already out have been since the 1st week of october. The website is not updated but if you want them let me know or send dimitri an email. He sold out of the c kites I think First week of october but has more in now. If you are looking for 2011 gear at a discount he will hook it up.
Thanks for the info Eric. I am looking for a 2011 12m screamer, I figured they would go on sale once the 2012s came out.
Havent flown the renegades... but I do have a screamer. Opposite end of the spectrum for what your looking at (my screamer is a 14m) and its a fun kite... pulls like a mack truck... and definitely takes some kites skills or it will teach you a lesson. Boosts like a champion though. I only use it on lighter wind flat water days or if its butter and im looking to ride lit and boost. From my experience with it i would not want to fly it in the waves. Also has a tendency to relaunch hot which isnt necessarily a bad thing...
Im in the process of deciding what kites I want to consider for my new quiver in the spring and the renegades are definitely on my list. but I prefer wave kiting so I will prob get something along the lines of a 6-9-12 wave oriented quiver and then keep my 14m for light wind TT days. If i cant get out on a 12 and a surfboard... I dont really want to be out there. spent to much time swimming cause it was too light to relaunch.

Devon,
You might want to consider RRD Religion kites for wave riding. I know everyone loves their own kites and since getting new 6m and 8m Religions, I certainly love mine. Seriously, I have been looking for wave specific kites for a couple of years and have tried many. Prior to the Religions I was riding GK Trix and Caution Mayhem and tried Caution Zombies. Both kites perform well in waves and are fast but nothing I have ridden in 10 yrs. kiting is as fast and suited for waves as are the Religions. They turn on a dime and you never have to wait for it to come around. Drifts perfectly.
You do need skill to make them work due to the speed of the kite but they improved my riding probably 30%. Not affiliated with them, try as many as you can. My quiver 6-8-11m
Was wondering if you had a 6m 2010?
Rich
Are you looking to buy one? 2010 is all sold out I am fairly certain but email Dimitri he may have some 2011's left. Dimitri@epickites.com tell him masskiting sent you and he will hook you up.
We should hopefully have a 7/11 m renegades up at tug hill for people to demo and maybe on the water the weekend before as well....
