I recently found a knot in one of my outside lines. I took Dunoyer's advice and soaked it in water for a night hoping it would loosen the knot, but it's done nothing to help. Suggestion on how to get it out? Am I asking for trouble to keep riding with it like this?

Never ride with knotted

Never ride with knotted lines.....the knot reduces the strenght of the line by 50%.

Soaking in water works good, you might want to pounding it flat with a rubber mallet. Rotate it after every few hits, this should help loosen it up more. Google it...a lot of good info/tricks on rock climbing forums.

Don't give up! Do what Chooch

Don't give up! Do what Chooch said and eventually you will get it out. Took me 2 days of doing that to get one out before but it worked

Thanks

So once I get the knot out, is the line still strong or has it's strength been compromised?

Line should be good to go. If

Line should be good to go. If you flew it with the knot in it you might have made it a bit weaker but nothing to worry about.

You can also pick up a couple

You can also pick up a couple of those dentist tools to gently pull it apart once you flatten and loosen it up. You can buy them at your local hardware store...

If you get the knot out, the line is better off. Obviously it is not as strong as it once was.
If you use tools you will most likely cut a few of the strands which will make it weaker.

Personally I would replace the lines. Its sucks to spend the money, but it's better thank having a line break while you are out riding (trust me on that one, Ive broken a few and I wont risk it again with a suspect line).

Good point

I was able to get the knot out after about an hour of pounding, poking, and proding. Looks solid, but I do see a few small threads sticking out. Think I'll swap out the lines from another bar for this weekend.

Chewing on the knot helps (no kidding), just don't use your sharp teeth.
