Kitestorm Vermont Stormboarding

I cannot wait to go up to the event and even when the weather does not provide we have a blast and Burlington has shopping for the non wind folks and great bars(for those not aware). But I think I will be arriving late. As Rachael would say.. "Think Snow!"

West wind....

Is Sunapee good in a West wind?

Seems like the West is going to be blowing for days!

Winds look to have some North

Winds look to have some North in it for the next few days. I think NW is good at Sunapee. I kited there once in a South wind and that was good too. I hope they got at least a few inches of snow. There's about 7-8 inches here in Westford and is still snowing. Should be an awesome powder session tomorrow morning on the local pond (Forge Pond).

I can't make Friday but plan

I can't make Friday but plan to hit Sunapee on Saturday. Can anyone point me a good launch spot? Does walking in from the public beach parking lot work? Thanks.

Last time I was there a few

Last time I was there a few years ago we parked off Soo-Nipi Park Rd. At the end of that road there is a public boat launch. It looks a bit odd because you pass close to people's backyards, but no complaints and no loose dogs. Hopefully that public boat launch is still valid today. That should be a good spot for NW. As a further reference point, the Loon island lighthouse on lake Sunapee is straight ahead all the way on the other side of the lake. I remember we cruised back and forth all the way there in a south wind. It's about 1 mile out from the boat launch.

Sunapee

I ski at Sunapee fairly often and found that the best launch is right at the rotary where you would turn into the mountain. I scoped it out last year and again this year, there just hasn't been enough snow on the lake to make it work. I believe it's Beach Rd off of rt 103. Its a public beach and no problem for access. You could even drive you car out if you've got the balls to do it. I don't but the ice fishermen do..

I went out this morning at

I went out this morning at the place I mentioned. I had a great session. Started out 15-20knots, then went solid 20-25 knots. There were generally about 2 inches of windswept snow. Temp was about 27F, so a bit crusty. No problems holding on with my snowboard. The wind had more west than north in it. I did not feel like braving it much as the winds came up and the whole lake started to have that whiteout look. I spoke to some locals about parking and using the lake access at Soo-Nipi Rd and they said it was totally fine for anybody. I don't know, but isn't this launch better as it is on the East side of the lake and the wind has more fetch ? The winds were very smooth and strong. They would stay 15-20 for a few minutes and then they would go 20-25. I only kited for about 1 hr as I was alone. Meanwhile at Kitestorm there were 10 knots all day and when I got there around 2 p.m. it was 0 mph. Let's hope for some winds tomorrow. There is about 1 inch of snow at the Sandbar on top of skating rink quality ice. The only things flying are them Flysurfers.
