OMG I am so sorry! That really is not the feedback I wanted. I expected to ask how you liked the board and this....

I lost my board this weekend,

I lost my board this weekend, too. Part of the bummer is that I ordered one of these last week and it still hasn't arrived. I keep wondering if my day would have ended differently if I'd had this. I still need to improve my relaunch skills, and probably to a lesser extent upwind body drags, but this would have made it easier to see my board at least in the dwindling daylight.

Paul..

Not what you want to hear stokester but....

we have to give you a tutoring on the body drag at Revere next time...

Depower kite, 45 degree angle or less, stretch out...side stroke position, arm in water like rudder, drag back and forth 10 second counts in each direction for about a minute, then start looking downwind of you.

Most people don't body drag long enough, and start looking and bobbing around.

Drag, drag and then drag some more, it will be much easier to find if it's downwind of you.

At least I recovered your back up board on the boardwalk after you left, u would be double puking if you had lost that one two.

On a positive note, it's awesome to see how much better you have gotten since last year, it was amazing to see you work your way back upwind from the Nahant bridge all the way back to Revere!

Always cool to see you postivie Irie energy on the water!

Sign me up for the bodydrag

Sign me up for the bodydrag lesson too!!! I've been kiting for 1 1/2 years and still can't consistently body drag upwind. I just try like hell not to lose my board in deep water.

Paul- I hope your board comes back to you soon.

I know your not a beginner

I know your not a beginner but I have to try to cheer you up:

Look truthfully you cannot be a kiteboarder "with experience" without a number of these things happening! Seriously it SUCKS but 1. your not hurt and 2. you have skills from putting your $$ out there to begin with. When I got my 1st kite my first launch was onto a pole and I lost $1k. I have lost boards! I have, I have, I have.... EXPERIENCE!

You too!

So that's really how we get good. We put in the time and the money. Most photographers had a camera stolen. Delivery drivers a blown engine or accident. You can go x sessions without an accident but sometimes its a stupid little thing like leaving a board on a beach or your lines. This was an accident that you did not get hurt! I mean you will always be a kiter regardless as to what board you have or loose... I realize it sucks but its paying your own dues for a sport you love!

board leash

My progressions video suggest using a board leash, with a helmet,
maybe now is a good time for an experience kiter to explain to us newbies why leashs are so bad.

Boards on leashes have

Boards on leashes have PENETRATED helmets. That's reson enough for me not to use one. My health is worth a lot more than my board.

LEARN TO BODY DRAG. PERIOD.

Helmets do not protect your

Helmets do not protect your face from a board coming right at you. Body dragging is one of the most important skills you can learn as a kiter. Your initiation to kiting will either cost you a board or two or all your teeth. The choice is yours.....

You don't even have to read the text, just look at the pics and you'll likely never even consider a board leash again.

All good reasons

For not using a leash. that progressions video can steer you wrong,
I don't understand why my personal lessons on the cape did not involve a bodydraging lesson, that would have helped

Make sure your number is on it!

I just go my boaqrd back from a guy that found it on the beach. He took it all the way home with him and called me. When I went to pick it up I tbutried to give him $50 he wouldn't take it. He said the most important thing was having my number on it, I agree!!!

That is awesome! I hope some like-minded soul finds my board as well.

Its great to hear that we

Its great to hear that we have a tight community of people who
are honest enough to return stuff.

But yea numbers are definitely important... its so hard to put a sharpy to brand new gear... and probably will hurt reselling it although I dont know... but I bit the bullet and did it on all my gear.
-Name and number on the tail of my board where it was most visible.
-Name and number right next to the Deflate valve on my kite.
-Name and number on my QR for the chicken loop, although that one tends to rub off

As for body dragging I got my practice in over the last week. Spent about 10 hours in the water over 3 days, and have begin to push my progression... as they say, if you are not crashing you are not trying hard enough... The key for me is just staying calm. The first few times I lost my board I sorta freaked, but as I got more comfortable body dragging I learned to just stay calm and try and keep my kite in the air when I crash as relaunching pulls you away from your board. Something I read somewhere else was to drag further then you think you need to and that helped alot too... gets rid of the frustration of being so close to your board and not being able to reach it.

Glad to hear you got your board back!

Do not use a board leash

People with board leashes tend to be the ones that "know" and teach themselves. Don't be that guy! Body dragging and self rescue comes before kiting for a reason. Body dragging is that skill along with self rescue that YOU have to have! Those guys that "know" and teach themselves have no fucking clue what to do when no ones around to land them, help them, what to do in a micro burst, when a wave grabs your kite, you have a blow out, or you get a tangle ect ect...

Self rescue and body drag are things you do and not avoid. They are not for emergency and are part of your every session. If there is a person on the beach great but what if you are a mile down wind.

If the board hit you in the head which it does with a leash often. Whats your kite gonna do while your sleeping tangled in the lines?

I had 2 very bad experiences which I am speaking from as I learned. We are all here to keep anyone from the same mistakes. Your lesson taught body dragging and self rescue! They told you not to use a leash. So when I see them I see a person that already "knows." Yet they cant kite.

I and others have spent hours helping people on our outings and trips. Its worth it... people need help. We help so you don't have to cheat and avoid what will keep you safe.

Leashes are 100%:
Hit you in the head
Wrap around your lines
Strangle you in a wave

This is kiteboarding not a yo-yo. I say all this with a smile and hope I dont sound angry. I just want to be loud enough to make a point. Be a beginner its fun! Later you will just be angry when you cant do a trick... Everyones learning something. Take your time and enjoy the day!

This is no substitute for

This is no substitute for body drags. If you havent mastered it yet, you need to practice more. Like skyrocket says, Body drag past where you think your board is. Then turn around and do it again if you have too. You cant really be safe out there unless you body drag to exactly where you want to go. life is so much easier with that skill.
