Need Help Fixing the Fin on my Surfboard
Hey All,
Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but after the last time I took the fins of my wainman surfboard for travel the screw that holds one of the fins in got pretty stripped. Basically I had left the screw in the hole after removing the fin so I wouldnt lose it during transport. I went to back the screw out to put the fin back in and there must have been some sand or other crap because it was stiff and stupid me tried to just apply more force. Next thing I know the screw is stripped and stuck in there.
Any ideas on how to fix this brilliant mistake of mine? See the attached picture a small part of the outer edge of the screw is protruding from the hole so I am thinking if I can find small enough need nose pliers I may be able to slowly twist it but I am slightly skeptical.
Second question where can I get a replacement screw?
Lastly is anyone else as dumb as me and done this?
Thanks!
OK I'am thinking you are showing a stripped screw head not thread, So if the screw hex of philips head is bad, turn it into a flat head screw. I would use a 3/32" thick cutting wheel on a 5" angle grinder to cut a grove across the screw head, If thats not available you can use a hack saw. good luck, Mike
Go to the hardware store or Home Depot and get what is called an easy out. you drill a hole down the center of the screw and start to thread in the easy out...it is Left hand threaded and tapered so that the more you put it in the tighter it gets and is trying the entire time to unscrew the bolt...much better choice than slotting and trying to use a screw driver.
when you purchase the correct size easy out check what the appropriate size drill bit you need it is crucial to match them up.
OR
Sell me the board cheap and I will fix it as I need a directional with all the waves we are getting this fall.
good luck.
Trip showed me a cool trick. Find the next size allen wrench size up and super glue it into the stripped head. Once dry, turn slowly but firmly. Worked like a charm.

Easy out is the best way.
