I was out on Houghs neck and found a pretty sweet park that is right on the water. If you look on google maps it is right on the arm pit of houghs neck just south of nut island. Would work great for W or NW. plenty of beach room for launching.
It would be a great alternative to Dog beach for us in the south part of Boston. Anybody every kite here feedback would be great.

session report from Houghs Point

I launched near there once, windsurfing, a few years ago. I was sailing out to the tip of Nut Island and scouting out the area. I didn't notice any great launches but I might have missed something.

The spot I launched from had some beach at mid tide. When I came back from Nut Island it was high tide, no beach, rock wall with back wash. I though that I was screwed until I found some stairs to climb out. It wasn't too bad. It would have been worse with a kite though.

I checked out 1 park, closer to Nut Island, but the paths to the beach were overgrown, long walk, and the beach didn't look great anyway from what I remember. But I wasn't kiting then so my prioritys for a good launch were different.

can you pin it on a google map? I'm interested, especially if it's beginner friendly.

Look on the maps the park is

Look on the maps the park is on Fensmere rd and if you look then there is a path that cuts across what use to be central road no longer a road then you are on the beach.

That's the spot I looked at

That's the spot I looked at for windsurfing, decided it was too far to walk, and path too overgrown for carrying a windsurfing rig/board. Carrying kite stuff is a lot easier so it's not really an issue.

Did it look safe for beginners? or expert only?

I like Dog beach in NW bit only at low tide. Maybe this would be a good high tide spot without driving to Chapin.

kited a this spot today

kited a this spot today worked pretty well. Lots of trash on the beach. Probably not a good spot if you cant go up wind. I know this will be my spot when I dont feel like driving far.

Parkhurst Perry - no go

Hey all,

I live in Quincy and I want to let you know that I've kited a couple of times at the spot you are talking about.

A lot of us don't kite there anymore since 2004 because a very good friend nearly died there.

In a NW or W wind the winds are onshore. The winds travel up the hill and can do unexpected things with kites. He was thrown into a tree and was very badly injured. If it wasn't for the tightness of his wetsuit, he would have bled to death. His vast knowledge of kiting, jumping, tricks and safety did not help him because it happened so fast. It could have happened to me also. It was simply luck of the draw.

Sometimes I go to the sandbar between Spectacle Island and Quincy instead. It's gusty but there are no hills or trees.

Damn! Thanks for the info.

Damn! Thanks for the info. I'll skip checking out this spot for kiting. Sorry to hear about the accident.

Sandbar kiting sounds a lot safer, probably more fun too. I can't find anything about a sand bar connecting to spectacle island though. I know that there is a sandbar connecting Thompsons to the mainland because my son used to go to school on Thompsons. At low tide you can walk across it to the island, or so he said. You can even see it on Google maps. If it's Thompsons then I'm wondering where you parked, and how long of a walk to the water?

Steve

WNW winds are of the devil...

for WNW I think Winga is the only doable spot, moreso Coffin Beach.

Dog B is great IMHO but only on NNW or NW, once it goes WNW, forget it, onshore and gusty, angry ex-girlfriend wind.

Plymouth Beach apparantly is gr8 too in talking to Travis.

Best all around in Chapin but one hell of a drive.

I just need an appropriate

I just need an appropriate board and some skills to handle the waves at Winger. I'm looking forward to gettng to that point though.

Plymouth Beach in WNW? Maybe Travis has a pass to drive all the way out to the tip?
