Playa del Carmen Kiteboarding beaches season 2010/2011
Playa del Carmen Kiteboarding Areas for coming 2010/2011 Wind season.
Thanks to the work of “PDC KITEBOARDING”(Sandos Playacar Kiteboarding School), the AKQR(Associacion de Kitesurfing de Quintana Roo), ZOFEMAT(Zona Federal Marítimo Terrestre) and the support and help of few local Kiteboarders, we finally could organize and rule 4 different Kitesurfing Areas on 4 different beaches in Playa del Carmen with a designated “Kiteboarding Launching Zone” where EXPERIENCED and CERTIFIED riders will be able to Launch and Land there kites in total respect to other “beach goes” and swimmers!
For beginners and non certified riders, the School of PDC Kiteboarding offers IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) certification courses given by experienced and IKO certified Instructors at their beach location: The Sandos Playacar Resort beach. (ex Gala Resort beach).
The school is the only Certified and Authorized center in Playa del Carmen.
Those 4 Kiteboarding Zone are the following:
*Sandos Playacar Resort Beach/PDC Kiteboarding School
*Playacar Phase 1 (Next to Xaman Ha condos)
*Coco Beach, about 300m north of the Grand Coco Beach Resort
*Xcalacoco
At each of those Kite Zone will be very soon installed by ZOFEMAT(in coordination with PDC Kiteboarding and the AKQR) a sign and map showing the exact “Designated Kite Area” and special rules for Kiteboarders and “beach users”.
The goal of this action is to allow the practice of this amazing sport while respecting the other water activities and other beach users!
It is very important that Kiteboarders respect those rules to be able to keep practicing our sport in the future in our hometown!!!

Great job securing those beaches/launches... can't wait to check it out someday!
I'm planing on taking the whole family down to Playacar Beach in February or April vacation. Unfortunately we have to go during school vacation.
Please share your experience for this location Playa del Carmen, Playacar Beach. I am looking at the Iberostar Quetzal as it seems most interesting for my girls. It is close to the PDC KITEBOARDING as well. Any family friendly tips on other accommodations other than the expensive all inclusive? OR is that just the best way to go?
I see most resorts down there offer some sports inclusive. Among many also windsurfing. Kiting seems to be banned in front of the hotels but windsurfing, sailing seems fine. Has anybody seen the windsurfing equipment? Wonder if it is from the last century. If current, would be fun too...
Hope to get some input..
Dani
Dani, I suggest you contact Joe and Chrity
They are good friends of mine who cruised on their catamaran for a few years and have now settled in Puerto Aventuras. Tell them I sent you and I think they could offer valuable insight.
Jean
@Jean, dropped a few lines to Joe and Christy. Hope to get some input.
Let me know if you get radio silence and I will get them on the line.
I was there with the all gang it was extremely cheap 1200$ for 10 days 2 adults and 2 kids all includes - the kids had a blast
For kiting it’s nice but not the best place as the water getting deep in few feet
The guys at PDC very nice and if the wind changed direction they go north of Cancun to the kiting paradise for 40$ round trip
I was there for 10 days kite 3 days but it was November!! The beginning of the season
Have fun
Riu Tequila seems to be a bit away from the beach and you have to take a shuttle? Was that not a problem with the family? Maybe not, I am sure it is probably a bit cheaper because of this. Otherwise the hotel looks good looking at the website. I am sure prices will be a lot more during Feb vacation.
There is currently a GROUPON for a stay in PDC at the Esencia Estate and have been questioning the kite access all day. Last time I was there we stayed at Mosquito Blue and do not recall any kiting in the entire area. Tullum seemed to be the place to go.
