Recovering someone else's board
Is there a special technique to grab and bring a board to someone who lost in the water? I once tried to waterstart with another board in my hand, but failed miserably.
I usually stop right at the board and sink into the water. Once I have the kite at 12 and the board next to me I grab it and lay it across my chest, this allows the board to sit on your forearms and bar while doing a water start. Once I am up and going I usually grab the board with one hand and fly the kite one handed to the down person, drop the board in the water down wind of them and get then f#@K out of dodge.
I successfully used the technique from this article in IKitesurf online magazine-

Summary- you put the board across the chicken loop and hold the tips of the board down with both arms. If I can do it, you know it isn't too hard.

Tried to edit the size of the photos so you could see them, but it double posts it. Then I can't figure out how to delete the post. Sorry guys.
This is the easiest way... only, it really makes you think twice about those huge lightwind boards. They are the biggest pain in the ass to ride on top of your lines.
I have done this before at pbay when was really blowing and the windage of the board made it really hard to control own kite and your movements. Sometimes just better and safer to leave it in the water and let the person come back to it or wait until drifts down. Just flipping it right side up is helpful and pointing and keeping eye on it for them.
I think all these tricks and photo how too's suck(not their fault). It would be like a description and pictures to learn how to tie your shoes. It would be very hard to get the right pictures and description in text about it. But let me replay a video and learning is much easier.
Here I go with the same ill attempt(but you did not pay for the magazine):
I agree that board across (on top of) arms is the way to as said. I have found that I hold the board by the handle like a shield as I pick it up. Leaving the handle facing down and bottom of the board facing me I can hold the bar and the handle at once while riding. The board laying on top does not restrict to much. Holding the handle between my palm an bar mean I have full control. The will help you loop and maneuver your kite as you have to bear downwind ect. Remember to just pass the person an bit down wind before you drop. They can have the kite then pull them to it. If you drop right next to them and they are not good at dragging you chance repeating the process.
There is a video on it built into the digital magazine. Page 93/94 of it. Makes it a little clearer then the photos.
I think it's easier with your hands on top of the board.
Besides my tongue in cheek comment that I'm pretty serious about..
On a surfboard I find it easy to pick up the board and ride toeside with the board in the free hand since you typically only ride toeside with one hand.
