Seems every year I get a lot of flack for riding a 17 meter kite and my trip to Cape Hatteras is no exception to the rule. At first while packing before heading down I was asking myself should I pack it or leave it. It is after all an effort in futility to pump that bad boy up but in retrospect it hasn't let me down after each session I get with it. It's big, it's purple and it is a beast in the sky. I lovingly call it the "purple dinosaur" or the "Barneyroo" because of its color and size is unmistakable plus I think it's a perfect analogy to describe a big purple kite. Best calls the color burgundy but it's distinctive childrens dinosaur character color and its size makes the analogy unmistakably perfect. It strikes up the the friendliest to the ridiculous comments but I take them all with a sense of humor and a grain of salt. It is also analogus to the character that is favorite to children and annoying to many "Barney". You either love him or hate him but if Barney were a Purple 17 meter Waroo flying in Cape Hatteras on Tuesday, May 4th with the Skipper in tow he'd be having his revenge today because none of you fuckers out there were riding up wind as long as I was and pulling jumps in todays light wind conditions like I was.

"I love you, you love me, we're a happy Mass Kiting family...."

Skipper, your purple dinosaur

Skipper,

your purple dinosaur works. Yesterday when there was 40 kites out and 20+ were in lessons or newbs, you, me, and kristof were rockin' hard and banging upwind. If it gives you a session, it works!!!

And I'm glad we got a session!! Totally worth it!!!

killer whales

most of the kids here never got to see Orca and Shamu, the twin Naish ARX 20 somethings (19.5s ?) owned by Jimmy C and jochem (or was it Santi ?) Giant Black and White Naish Blimps back 'in the day'.
I remember seeing Santi's F One TT board with the flora and thinking OMG that thing is SWEET !(I think Bob Conn still has it)

no shame in riding a barney kite

16+

I got a 16m Liquid force Havoc this year, and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. Along with my 6' surfboard it's given me sessions where I otherwise would have had none.

Then again I'm a little heavier than the average "75kg rider" you often see on kite wind range charts, so I need a slightly bigger kite...
