REVERE BEACH UPDATE
Cause for concern. This weekend I noticed that the enclosed area roped off for piping plovers has been extended further south from the roped off area at Revere Beach. It appears that Revere beach is slowly being transformed from America's first public beach to a man made plover sanctuary. I fear that someday soon the entire northern part of the beach will be closed off to the public. As some of you know I live in Revere and find this action intrusive as the Audobon Society is influencing the DCR to close this recreational area off to the public. We still have lots o space but are slowly being pushed further south making the beach congested with parking limits and people crowding. There is a high rise building (the last one) on Revere Beach Boulevard heading north towards the Point of Pines. Please stay off the beach or do not ride or walk with your kite over the land past this point if you get pulled down wind. I know it sucks but these are the changes that are going on in the area. If the wind quits while you are riding on the north part of the beach do not walk your kite in the air. If you can body drag to a safe part of the beach to where you can or land your kite on the water or before the roped off areas and walk your gear back.
What i do not get is if piping plovers so endangered or whatnot. How come its every beach that is closing and affected.. Shouldn't it just be one or two.. These things are like flys they seems to be everywhere.
Or maybe it should read WE 'SHOULD' HAVE OURS. Put them somewhere other than our public beaches.

I remember the sign down at Hatteras. "We the people, not we the plovers". Perhaps we should put some up as well.

We'll these birds were not nesting regularly at Revere Beach. It is because someone from the audobon society spotted them feeding and decided that a section of the beach should be closed down to allow them to nest. Last year there were two families nest in that entire closed off area and one of the families abandoned their nest. There were a total of 5 birds last year. Two parents and 3 chicks in 400 yards of closed off area.
