Saturday 2/13 snowkite
I still haven't made it snowkiting yet this year and im dying to go. with this snow coming tomorrow, looks like this weekend could be good (unfortunately i cant get out of work thurs. or friday). So anyone want to go on saturday? i guess it depends on how much snow we end up getting, and the forecast looks like more south more snow, but id go anywhere from indian lake to winnipasauke to burlington, VT (girlstoorm). what are ppl thinking about this weekend?
Don't come to Burlington for snow. We don't have ANY! The lake is solid ice, no snow. There is fun to be had if you have skates though. I went out yesterday with a 3 meter Samurai and skates and it was alot of fun! You shoot very high upwind on skates. There are miles and miles of surface to ride and it's all glass smooth. I put the skates on out of desperation as the wind was blowing 18-20. I didn't expect to have as much fun as I did! I'm looking at the lake in a whole new way....I'm not pissed that there's no snow on it.
You guys are getting the snow down there and us Vermonters are talking about taking a trip down there this weekend so we can get back on our snowboards under the kite.
I will be at Indian early on Sat. 7:00ish. Now lets hope for wind:) I just looked at the 10 day forecast and it looks like this is going to be a great 10 day run of snow kiting!!!
I'll def be down to ride saturday.
Was going to hit up girlstorm with the lady, but since theres no snow theres really no point.
Are there any good places to ride in RI or CT? Forecast is calling for significantly more snow further south.
How about Lake Quannapowitt in wakefield? Will that work for local folks?
Or is not enough ice on it?
Lake Q would be great I think.
Really
Masskiting baby! Let's do it!

Folks,
Looks like we are not snowkiting 2morrow!!!
Water kiting?
If you find 2 to 4 inches of heavy wet snow on a frozen lake, it can mean good conditions.
Jean
I am going to Indian early thurs AM, and Ron went there this afternoon, he said there was about an inch around 3:00. We got about 2" here and there should be more in Worcester, Jean I'll call you in the AM or maybe I'll see you there:)
DC, baby!
Don't travel to Indian without a good onsite report. I don't think it got quite enough. I would go to a harder hit region.
Bob, if things don't look good you could try The Bog or longtime but not forgotten webster lake.
lol... chapin anyone?
Had a great time at Lake Quannapowit in Wakefield yesterday, snowkiting for the first time. Wind was West 8-10 mph. I had skis (old school 200cm slalom) and a 3.6m HQ Beamer TSR. There were 5-6 other kiters there on larger kites including Dean (who just fabricated ice blades for his buggy), Paul (who lent me a helmet and an ice screw (invaluble at the end of the session) and Dan (who is always in good cheer with good advice) It's funny - I tried landboarding and kite surfing this past summer for the first time, but had some difficulty with the boards, but since I have been skiing for years, I did not evan have to think about them, and was able to just kite. Most others with larger (8.5m kites) were parking, but I was actually able to sine the 3.6m (alot) to keep speed with them. I can't wait to get out there again. Anyone interested in catching up there should call me at 513-349-4344.
Later - Scott Cohen
Scott - great to hear that Lake Q worked out well for you all yesterday. I had my first session of the year out at Indian Lake yesterday. Had a great time, but I live in Cambridge, so Wakefield is definitely a closer option for me in the future. How was the ice depth and snow cover up there? Would definitely be up for checking it out next weekend if it's still safe.
Jeff

Indian Lake is pretty close to me so that would work great, i went there a few times last year. never been to lake Q, but like i said ill go wherever people go. news last night said sunny and breezy on saturday. let's just pray for wind!
