One of the guys
(Bryan) that is planning the kiting later this month lives down the street from Lake Sunapee, so we have local eyes to report on the conditions before anyone drives the ~2 hours.

I was at gunstock skiing last saturday, and lake Winnipesaukee had zero ice. I doubt the ice is safe at this point.

Just checked in with a hotel
Just checked in with a hotel owner on Lake Sunapee. He says that the ice conditions are iffy and they are getting lots of rain. Surface conditions are bad for this weekend. I'm not going to do it. :^(

Lake Sunapee - President Day weekend
I'll be up there this weekend. How's the ice on the Lake? Anyone planning on going out if it's good? Would be great to meet up with some people.
Are there any other place within an hour with snow? Thanks.

Bob and I had a good session
Bob and I had a good session at Melvin Village, NH, on Lake Winnipesauke yesterday. A little over 2 hours drive from here in Watertown, MA. The surface is ice, but not glare ice, so you can actually edge no problem. This means you accelerate quickly. They are tough conditions to launch and land, but once you get going it's fun. A foot of fresh would be nice, because that ice could seriously kick your a$$ if you f*** up. Looking at the Snow Depth map tells me you need to travel farther North to find snow
