Hi guys,
Just moved to town from DC via a three week kiting-palooza at OBX - good times. I am super psyched to sample the local wind/water, and hang with some of the guys here on Masskiting. I've been lurking for a couple days now, and stayed up way too late last night reading all the beta on the beaches forum - great stuff.

Pleasure Bay just looks sick, and I can't wait to give it a try.

One question, I saw alot of references to "during the season". What exactly is "
the season" around here? Is this like Mem Day to Labor Day? Also, I noticed some sites kiting is banned until after 6PM. Does the ban apply to a super early dawn patrol, like a 6AM on water session?

I am only here for a one year grad school program, but hope to meet and kite with many of you, schedules permitting - I'll be the guys asking lots of questions about the local spots, and hopefully following/respecting the local rules/traditions. Seems like one tradition is drinking beer, I am good at doing that.

A couple other questions:
-Best place for a quick after work session?
-my wife is a beginner - riding but not staying upwind yet - trying to build confidence, where is the best place for her?
-Anyone have a signif other or spouse that is learning that would like to go out with my wife for a kite session?

Thanks for your time. Great forum. Hope to see you on the water.
Jason

Oh yeah, I really like to ski too. Any other die hards out there? Here are some pics to start thinking about the season (it's never too early).

What's up Jason! Welcome to

What's up Jason! Welcome to the area/forum.

a few of your questions answered...

the season is Memorial Day to Labor Day. So it is officailly the season, but not all places have lifeguards yet. 6pm is usually the time when it is ok to kite in areas with lifeguards. it is typically when the lifeguards go home. sooooo.... you shouldn't really be kiting when lifeguards are present. that is, of course, if you ask them specifically and they say it's ok. Dawn patrol is probably ok in a lot of spots if you get off the water before they get there. If the winds are nuking and no one is on the beach, that's prolly ok during the day.

There are some places on the Cape like Waquoit Bay that is good for beginners. Duxbury can be good too, but you need a sticker to get out to the right place. We are facing big problems with the plovers this time of year... prolly into July our access is even more restricted. watch out for the yellow signs. And if you see one, I hear they taste like chicken Wink

Where are you living while in the area? See you at the beach/bar soon?
