Just wanted to let everyone know that i have a trip planned out to Utah March 10th-16th this year. We go there (or somewhere out west, but utah is my favorite) every year, and i figured this year it would be nice to try and kite a day or two, as utah is supposedly the place to be for snowkiting. We stay in Sandy (usually Comfort Inn is cheap), 30 minute drive to Alta/Snowbird, little further the Brighton/Solitude, hour to the 3 Park City ski areas, and about 1.5 hours to Powder Mountain, which i have never skied but know has a dedicated snowkite area with hundreds of acres of terrain. But im sure there are many other places to kite too. Just wanted to throw this post up and see if anyone is interested. would be fun to have some masskiters around too....and even if the wind is no good (which is unlikely at 10,000+ feet), you still got some of the best skiing in the world right there.

powder mountain rocks

Hey Pete,

I am jealous man, definitely write a session report when you come back. I went to Park city, hated that mountain. Too busy. I loved powder mountain, its pretty empty mountain which is why i loved it.

Yeh I heard they got some sick snowkiting there as well. Very cool stuff, again have fun man!

come to Utah!

so just suck it up and come this year. It's gonna be me, Majoo, my sister, maybe her husband, and a couple of my dads friends. The hotel is cheap, $35 ea./night if you stay with someone, and then if you kite we all know that's free once you got the gear. and id like to have some of your gear out there too. haha. i say you go. bring gorette. you wont regret it. utah is amazing....

I love Powder Mountain, may

I love Powder Mountain, may be out there March 11-14. I'd also love to hit Skyline again (about 90 miles S of SLC.) Usually just camp out up there.

Yeah, Powder was the first to

Yeah, Powder was the first to allow snowkiting! I've been wanting to go. I guess the terrain can get boring though.

As far as the skiing goes,

As far as the skiing goes, nothing compares to Alta/Snowbird. (Alta doesnt allow snowboarders tho). We usually ski those two mountains, then maybe 1 day somewhere else. Solitude is probably my next favorite. but ill definately research the kiting spots more before i go out, and hopefully meet up with some masskiters!

I'll be there March 12-14.

I'll be there March 12-14. Thinking of going down to Skyline or above Strawberry Reservoir and camping if conditons are right. Alta is nice (been there many times) but you should really spend a day at PowMow too (more of an MRG vibe, endless untracked, no crowds.)
