Any reports from the usual certified screwballs at the Bay? I have sailed there in March but not for a decade or more. Funny, but I had my 4.4 ice/snow/trainer up on the beach here in Florida two weekends ago and had a lot of fun with it. However, you just don't see any tea-baggers out there on the Ocean anymore due to the sharks.

We miss you, sort of.

Oh my Gawd!!!!

Locked???? It must be that Dudley Dooright character from DOC whose responsible. (I have to adjust my thinking now as the DOC is the Dartmouth Outing Club up North.) They believe that winter traffic was responsible for the potholes. I'm shocked, though. First they strip the Wamp Chief of his powers, then they send him off to Jail, now they are closing off the reservation to the Indians. What the hey?? I'm flying back Patriot's Day with a Formula board and expect the situation to be rectified. Pass the word, the big Kahuna, Psychokiter, has broken loose from his chains and is on the rampage!!!! He'll be sinking ships this year.

Wacko Bay

Wacko bay and the road that leads to it is State property or it is under state trust. It won't be closed. Fred M. posted a nice thread last year about this location when someone brought the access issue and that it being closed to kiters is just wrong. In the years that I have been at that spot it has been closed from time to time for work on the roads. It could have been locked to prevent 4x4rs from tearing up the road with all this water.

All is not lost.....

Went to Wacko Bay to fuel the addiction the other day to find the gate closed. NOOOOO!!!!! In a fit of Kite RAGE I went to the gate with intentions of strapping a chain to my truck and pulling it out of the ground.... Only to find the gate was not locked just closed. With no signs of tampered lockes or chain or warnings signs i ventured to find the road in decent shape, no flooding. Just a few down trees we had to move. Game on!

Yes, I have seen the gate

Yes, I have seen the gate closed, but not locked in the past. In fact anyone can close the gate. For that matter, anyone can remove a lock with the right equipment. Poor robert acted like the ordinary doctor and jumped to a conclusion without thoroughly investigating the facts.

Gates keep out beach goers

I have found a much better solution and believe that a few red leds and a Hoff mentality will keep you beach side. Just simply back up and find the turbo boost button.. (note OD is not the same thing) I mean you don't even need a truck so no one will complain about 4x4 tearing anything up. Also Robert you need not even get out of the car next time to check the gate. Also finding parking will not be an issue Smile

See video

If this does not work we can study the Dukes of Hazard method but it requires a ramp which is really old fashioned and this method here is more modern.

I am sad

I am sad to report that the gate was actually locked with a padlock for the last few months, first time I have seen that in my six years. Mike M also ran into this problem. The day I disovered this I rode over to the Reserve headquarters in Falmouth and found someone staying late at his office. He explained that the Reserve Warden had decided to lock the gate for Winter Early Spring "rainy" season, mostly to protect the road from further damage as I intimated in my intial post. A few of us have since been in phone and email conversation with the Warden and we have an upcoming meeting, he is concerned about several matters at the Bay, and seems in favor of kiting access but has had some complaints about kiters from nonkite users of the Bay.

I am glad he has since removed the lock. Tread lightly.

Robert, Please act as our

Robert,
Please act as our spokesman with the local authorities. Keep us updated if you meet with the Warden and there are any changes. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Thanks!

Those dirty dogs

First of all, sorry to have maligned the good Doctor Robert. If the gate was padlocked, then that certainly should be questioned. Who is the warden? He must have a name. I'll have to speak to him about the differences between windsurfing and kiting. There's no reason to lump the two sports together. It should be explained that kiters make good shark bate while windsurfers scare the sharks away. However, it would be better to center your attacks on motor boating on the bay. You can point out that obesity is the number one health issue in America. Motorless sports promote physical activity and prevent heart disease. Find out who is complaining about the kites. Then counter that the boaters offer the biggest risk to life and these fat-assed officials should start working for a living and control them.

I hesitate to malign the motor boaters. When my harness blew apart in the middle of the lagoon, and my kite and board went this way and that, a retired weekender on his skiff rescue my ass from the longest swim of my life.

Think about it.

No one is maligning motor boaters. The fact would be that there are too many, they are too big and travel too fast, not that they are all dangerous. Restrictions are needed on the size of the craft, the size of the engines and the speeds at which they travel through the bay. Although there are complaints about kiters, have their been any serious injuries due to kites on W.B.? If you are going to let the >>Warden<< take the complaints about kites serious, let them take my complaints about wardens serious. NO ONE POLICES THE POSTED SPEED RESTRICTIONS EFFECTIVELY. As the fastest craft on W.B., I have not been questioned once about the hazards there.

There should be a designated area...

Maybe you can work with the warden on this. Kiters strewn all about the place is crazy and iA can see how that upsets people/families.

It's easier to self police each other and coach kookiness if it's all going down in one place.

Frankly, I hate the place but I like how many people go there, more space for me at other launches Wink

Maybe Greg is onto

Maybe Greg is onto something... can we rope off an area that is designated for kitesurfing that is far away from the beach that regular beachgoers can walk to? can we pay for the buoys? Maybe some signs?

If the rules are fair and legit, tell them that our organization will pay to keep buoys in place and we will try to self police/enforce the rules.

Yeah, like I think everyone

Yeah, like I think everyone should pump, launch and land up near the marsh entrance, no one go near the boat channel, that's where the families seem to recreate.

Yes, and instead if he has any sense he should know that motorboating should be banned from Waquoit Bay.

Reserve Warden,

Certainly, I must add some more now that I've downed a few old fashioned cocktails. I give Robert all the praise that I can muster, but these titled dickwads who have absconded my ancestral house, the Swift Estate, and think they can lock up Sacred Indian lands while they have the Chief himself locked up in some colonial prison need a good dose of reality. Do we actually have to set up an outdoor screen and show the movie Mrs. Soffel (starring Mel Gibson and Diane Keaton) to get the point across? Roped areas for kiting? Staying out of the channel areas might be great for me, but you kiters must realize that the most experienced WB wind enthusiasts like the Doc almost always launch at the first parking lot and travel through the channels as a matter of rule. The families congregate everywhere in the bay, especially those that can afford boats. Then again who designated a clam seeding area as a family recreation mecca? The reality would be that recently the W.B. estruarian egghead and douchebag study group was awarded a big money grant. When people like this receive government grants, they usually turn the money into high paying salaries and then take the jobs themselves. After that they sit back, exercise the arrogance of office and piss all the money away. Don't worry, they will soon fade from the scene as they chase the easy money from state to state.
