Wacko Bay
Any reports from the usual certified screwballs at the Bay? I have sailed there in March but not for a decade or more. Funny, but I had my 4.4 ice/snow/trainer up on the beach here in Florida two weekends ago and had a lot of fun with it. However, you just don't see any tea-baggers out there on the Ocean anymore due to the sharks.
Psycho, you are back!
Went down to WW Rd just yesterday after work, and its locked!
Apparently the state has decided to be our parent and lock it to protect the road for the Spring, they say they will open ealy Apr.
We miss you, sort of.
Wacko bay and the road that leads to it is State property or it is under state trust. It won't be closed. Fred M. posted a nice thread last year about this location when someone brought the access issue and that it being closed to kiters is just wrong. In the years that I have been at that spot it has been closed from time to time for work on the roads. It could have been locked to prevent 4x4rs from tearing up the road with all this water.
Went to Wacko Bay to fuel the addiction the other day to find the gate closed. NOOOOO!!!!! In a fit of Kite RAGE I went to the gate with intentions of strapping a chain to my truck and pulling it out of the ground.... Only to find the gate was not locked just closed. With no signs of tampered lockes or chain or warnings signs i ventured to find the road in decent shape, no flooding. Just a few down trees we had to move. Game on!
I have found a much better solution and believe that a few red leds and a Hoff mentality will keep you beach side. Just simply back up and find the turbo boost button.. (note OD is not the same thing) I mean you don't even need a truck so no one will complain about 4x4 tearing anything up. Also Robert you need not even get out of the car next time to check the gate. Also finding parking will not be an issue
If this does not work we can study the Dukes of Hazard method but it requires a ramp which is really old fashioned and this method here is more modern.
I am sad to report that the gate was actually locked with a padlock for the last few months, first time I have seen that in my six years. Mike M also ran into this problem. The day I disovered this I rode over to the Reserve headquarters in Falmouth and found someone staying late at his office. He explained that the Reserve Warden had decided to lock the gate for Winter Early Spring "rainy" season, mostly to protect the road from further damage as I intimated in my intial post. A few of us have since been in phone and email conversation with the Warden and we have an upcoming meeting, he is concerned about several matters at the Bay, and seems in favor of kiting access but has had some complaints about kiters from nonkite users of the Bay.
I am glad he has since removed the lock. Tread lightly.
Robert,
Please act as our spokesman with the local authorities. Keep us updated if you meet with the Warden and there are any changes. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Thanks!
I hesitate to malign the motor boaters. When my harness blew apart in the middle of the lagoon, and my kite and board went this way and that, a retired weekender on his skiff rescue my ass from the longest swim of my life.
Maybe you can work with the warden on this. Kiters strewn all about the place is crazy and iA can see how that upsets people/families.
It's easier to self police each other and coach kookiness if it's all going down in one place.
Frankly, I hate the place but I like how many people go there, more space for me at other launches
Maybe Greg is onto something... can we rope off an area that is designated for kitesurfing that is far away from the beach that regular beachgoers can walk to? can we pay for the buoys? Maybe some signs?
If the rules are fair and legit, tell them that our organization will pay to keep buoys in place and we will try to self police/enforce the rules.
Yeah, like I think everyone should pump, launch and land up near the marsh entrance, no one go near the boat channel, that's where the families seem to recreate.
for Kiting Warden. He's got a no BS type of atitude.
Plus, if someone is kooking out, he has that "get a brain! morans" sign that he can use!lol

Locked???? It must be that Dudley Dooright character from DOC whose responsible. (I have to adjust my thinking now as the DOC is the Dartmouth Outing Club up North.) They believe that winter traffic was responsible for the potholes. I'm shocked, though. First they strip the Wamp Chief of his powers, then they send him off to Jail, now they are closing off the reservation to the Indians. What the hey?? I'm flying back Patriot's Day with a Formula board and expect the situation to be rectified. Pass the word, the big Kahuna, Psychokiter, has broken loose from his chains and is on the rampage!!!! He'll be sinking ships this year.
