What is new for you: 2012?
I know its the winter doldrums, but the unseasonably warm weather has got me thinking about 2012.
What's new or you this year? We know how new gear makes you better, so how are you stepping up our game?
As for me:
2012 Epic Screamer LTD 10m
2011 Xenon Laluz 132
And a baby.
Buckle up:
Ben Wilson Noise 6m, 8m
Hoping for a directional and/or Mako King...
Best Taboos, 9 and 12. Loop the kite a lot more.
Yeah they fly real nice
Too chicken, another goal for 2012 is to avoid injury. Last week I kited two beautiful sessions, not just because the wind was solid and I was alongside my good friends, but also because for the first time in 6 months it was pain free.
I think looping the kite is a great technique for generating a lot of power quickly in certain situations, put doing them Lenten style is too risky.
Yes, my focus lately has been in finding the slicks. That changes EVERYTHING!
I have some new Ethibond Excel suture material in my right knee. The sport will be all new to me when I am able to ride again. I will be taking nothing for granted and looking forward to executing my first water start some time at the beginning of the summer. When I left off I was getting decent air while jumping, doing loop transitions and working on back rolls and back roll transitions.
2010 6M RPM bought new in the late fall. I have used it more than my 14M since I bought it. I liked it so much that just bought a 2011 8M RPM. Sold my previous 8M Havoc and I am selling my 2010 5'4" Naish Fish to be replaced by ???
I need to learn to tack and my surfboard and work on strapless airs(someday).
Me:
-Ortho Scope of Right knee in 3 weeks hopefully brings me a new knee.
-Bomb proof attitude so I stop holding back all the damn time
-looking to add an Epic renegade 7m to my quiver and possibly a 10m screamer
Healing my left knee from a Micro-fracture until April 1st
Goals:
- Waves (with surfboard)
- Handle Pass
New gear so far (retail therapy:
- 2011 Naish Global 6.0 she is so pretty
Future gear:
- New TT maybe Laluz or Team Series?
Start riding waves without the straps. Don't even put the straps on the board. It is more natural surfing and a completely different challenge from the twin tip.
Jon you are already killing it strapless in the surf dude!
I really want to get to were I can do small strapless airs and some more interesting transitions. problem is I get lazy and end up not pushing myself.
well, losing the board and doing a long swim when the water temperature is 47 degrees is pretty hard core.
Sam;
Backing off and letting the new cartilage heal is key for the microfracture procedure to work properly. I know its hard because it probably feels fine already. You need to give the new cartilage time to harden and remodel other wise it will just disintegrate when you start leaning on it again.
I had it done about 10 years ago and aside from the 8 months that I had to back off while it heals it has been awesome. My other knee is shit right now but the micro-fracture repaired knee has been awesome.
Renegade 7, Cameron's green kite, I can vouch for its performance! Had one of the best sessions of 2011 on that thing.
That sucks...didn't know you were on the injured reserve....
Congrats on the Screamer LTD
Wainman Rabbits and focusing on strapless.
Edit - keeping the wife & 2 kids happy while I play.

Good choice my man. Have you tried the new 2012 Wainmans???
Demo'd the older Boss and loved it. Was just never a fan of the bar & safey (lack there of). The new bar setup is sweet. I picked up the 2012s barely used from a guy that was looking to change out his quiver to a 14.5 and 10.5.
To demo as much gear as possible and see what has changed in the last few years.
Your gonna love the new Boss, its even better than the old ones. More stable and higher jumping and yes the new bar is a huge bonus.....
Try to get some bigger kites:)
