Why not have a WEEKEND-LONG EVENT focusing on SAFETY where...
the more experienced/senior kiters could demonstrate and we could all take the time to practice these such important safety maneuvers under guidance and a somewhat controlled environment?
We could all gain from it. Experienced riders and newbies. I am sure we all have something to share.
What do you guys think??
I know it cuts on your riding time, but imagine: We could all be safer out there in our next session. Furthermore, this would be a good initial push for that culture of "It's ok to ask for help".

Hey Rob,
I really like this idea. My thoughts would be to try and partner with one of the local schools and offer a few free clinics going over safety and beach/wind conditions and how to recognize bad situations.
One problem I foresee however is numbers. We can't have 30 people at a beach all practicing popping their OSR and reeling in the kite. However it would be really cool to offer a series of these events and have people register. Do small groups of 10 kiters or so. We would want to use a beach large enough so we could do this in one area and not interfere with other people who are just there to ride. Chapin at mid to low tide might be good because there is so much space.
I don't think it would need to be a whole weekend event although if the wind is good I am sure everyone will want to stick around and kite. The clinics could be an hour or two long.
Why don't you do some brainstorming and come up with some topics, ideas, locations, etc and post them. We can then get it started!
Anytime I am at the beach with you, I'll spot you if you want to practice your QR and self-launch/land/rescue.
