Mansfield Hollow Snowkiting Session
I've been stuck at work at the firehouse for the last 48hrs. and the last thing I needed was to deal with the crappy snow outside. Jeff (Kitesportsct) texted me and said the Hollow was going to be on today and I didn't want to miss an opportunity to ride at such a fun place. I left the firehouse around 7am only to rush home, pack my gear and kiss the family hello and goodbye and out the door I headed. I was the first one at the Hollow and it was blowing North at a solid 15. Jeff got there shortly after and we pumped up and headed out on to the lake. Last night left a crusty layer of snow on top of about 4" of powder. Under the powder was about 20" of lightly packed snow.
We both made our way around the lake and I used MotionX GPS, on my Iphone, to track the two sessions we had. Marcus drove about an hour to come and ride and pretty soon the three of us had the whole place to ourselves, except for the one ice fisherman who seemed not to mind that we were there. My first session was amazing! It felt good to get back on the snow after Tugg Hill! The Hollow is a unique place that always seems to blow North because of the funneling through the rolling hills leading up to it. I have to say it was finally nice to be riding and boosting air instead of shoveling out fire hydrants. The lightly packed snow turned out to be a soft landing for the few times I landed kinda hard. I also practiced my downloop transition and I have to say it's a lot of work on a 15m kite....but all in all an A++ day! I ended up having to leave about 1pm but Marcus and Larry both stuck around and rode....
