MASSkiting Seven
Julian was so stoked for his first session of the 2010 season, he was pushing to leave Boston by 6AM, afraid the wind would drop by noontime. After some negotiation by chris and myself, we talked him down to 7AM, and we managed to get on the road on time. Johnny D, Jermy, Venom(Phil), and Ted were a bit behind us but on their way.
After a Whoppper breakfast in Hyannis, we started scouring the Google map of the bay side of the Cape. We found what looked like a promising spot in Dennis where we could avoid a crowded Chapin and it's tidal problems, as we were arriving at dead high tide.
Our first look over the dune at the spot got us super excited. Side-on wind blowing in the mid 20's with a perfect flat water zone behind a rock jetty, complete with smooth kickers rolling in. We grabbed the gear and started pumping.
Julian hit the water first on his 12m Rise while Chris and I were right behind on 10m and 9m Rises. We all headed up wind to the jetty to throw down in the flat water. Julian popped a monster front roll that made four and a half rotations before a somewhat nasty splash down. After that we was in pumping his 8m Rise. Chris followed shortly after to pump his 7m.
Ted, Phil, Jermy, and JD arrived and by the time Chris and Julian were back out on the water with their smaller kites, JD was out on his 12m, Phil and Ted on their 9ms, and Jermy on his 11m. Chris threw the best, cleanest trick I've seen him do: a 15ft high boosted backroll with a perfect kiteloop. Must be that 7m!
JD had a minor accident with his 12m, splitting it down the center. Julian's brand new 8m stalled out and got parked on the edge of the dunes and wouldn't hold air afterwards. Chris lent his kite out and went to sit on the jetty and snap the following photos.
Wind died around 2PM and we all hung out on the beach while the final kiters finished out their sessions. A few sunburns and some sore muscles later, a great session scored.
Nice choice of venue
My kite WAS a 9m Smoke but either way its a decoration now!! My kite ripped in half and judging from the second slit in the canopy I found I figure I had two and one opened up. Ohh well crap happens
Comedy for the day I guess.
looked like an easy repair though
Gear breakasaurus
