so the kite lines around the phone lines is what happened when I went out with a 6 in low 40s gusting to upper 40s..then it came up to mid to upper 40s gusting to mid 50s..liquid smoke conditions. was still managing sort of, but the kite was getting a bit unstable in the water. when I came in on a small patch of sand due to high tide the kite became much more unstable cause I couldn't keep any rear line tension without getting dragged. So I pulled the qr and held it by the chicken loop and it came down nicely on the side of the window. but no one there to catch it, then it relaunches aimed for the center on window. time to let go. had no leash on that day so it flew away and it didn't quite clear the lines. summary: bad choices led to a series of problems and i didn't want the last problem to be me flying through the parking lot. not sure what would have happened if leashed.

Maybe could of done the handle in the water, but I thought I could come in and land to an assistant. Just as soon as I got in the kite was deforming badly doing half inversions then snapping back to full power, so I didn't want to try to reach the oh shit handles. Not sure if I could of held it with a handle anyway and would not leash to anything..just too much potential for disaster with a leash in that much wind. at the time letting go really seemed like the best thing to do to avoid potentially serious injury . of course not to putting a kite up at all would have been smarter, or use a 4m. I was right on the upper edge of my 6 m kite range when launched then it came up more. bad choice not to leave some margin

It sounds like a crazy day!

It sounds like a crazy day! I'm glad you're O.K. It's better to have the kite messed up than you.
