Halloween Spooktacular
Halloween Spooktacular
If you hadn't noticed Halloween is this weekend and our own CapeKiter, Eugene got me thinking...We need a Halloween Masskiting event! Now this is very last minute and I have not spoken with anyone about this. But I am just curious to see what we can come up with last minute. It is a little to early to tell but I am hoping for some wind this weekend. If there is I think we should have a Masskiting gathering at the preferred beach based on wind direction and either do a big down winder or just throw down all afternoon. Oh and of course this would be a COSTUME event. No costume = no beer for you. I just think about the Elvis costume floating around and Spatsy's infamous mask. I think we could take this to the next level. Could probably get publicity in some local papers too. Are people around? Thoughts? Do you already have a costume in mind? OH and I call superman!

Thanks for the burgers, the good cheer, the high wind and awarding me the prize (a case of high life) for best costume. I donated it to Camp HowUdoin'
thanks for the donation
great seeing everyone in costume! that was a lot of fun. def a new tradition.
There was a lot of competition for best costume but I think your jacket plus the fact that you logged the longest session made you a clear winner Jean!
I am just getting ready now from Westboro to the cape. I do wonder if we should start without costume till folks gather and then get er done. Thoughts? I originally figured if we did 2 beaches or had to. That we would costume the second beach. I hear its going to be 85 and sunny today that's awesome!
I'm getting ready to leave the house in 20 from Acton
See Y'all in Hardings
I will get there around 1PM, First Encounter can be the fall back if the fog shuts us down at Hardings. I have some very strong Lithuanian beers called the Werewolf. Also bringing Tzaziki, dolmades, bread, and pistachios. Will have video camera rolling after I nail a killer sesh.
I HAVENT GOT OUT SINCE THE DEMO DAYS,IS THE WATER COLD,ALL I HAVE IS A 4/3 WETSUIT AND NO GLOVES,I WILL BE COMING TO THE CAPE TOMOROW ,I AM GOING TO BRING SOME BURGERS AND SOME SNACKS FOR LUNCH,DO WE HAVE A FINAL DESTINION OR ITS GOING TO BE A LAST MINUTE CALL,KEEP US UPDATED PLEASE.
Hardings in Chatham. Give me a call if you have questions.
Details:::::::
SO Sam has a Grill. If people can kind of bring food like a potluck that would be big. I know Francekiter said he would bring some burgers. I'll grab some stuff as well. If you come empty handed please bring a few bucks to chip in.
BRING BEER
I already have a case of beer set aside for the best costume.
Forecast looks NW in the AM then switching to W/SW around noon.
I plan on getting to the beach early. I am open to suggestion but seems like most people are saying they want to hit Hardings. However that leaves us high and dry in the AM.
Might be able to start Chapin in the AM and move to either WD or Hardings?
When are people hoping to show up? We want to have a definite location.
Anyone have a better idea of what time the wind will shift?
For tomorrow AM if anyone is not sure where we will be call my cell. 508 989 9038. I will change my voicemail saying where we are so even if I dont pick up you will know!

Most recent ikite forecast looks great.
Hardings in Chatham is the call check the beaches section if you haven't been there.
First Encounter is the back up if fog kills the wind on the sound side.
I am shooting for 10am arrival. Jermy mentioned a possible down winder from WD to Hardings. If people are down we can pile into a couple cars and head to WD in the early afternoon.
Feel free to give me a call in the AM, 508 989 9038
Ok, so either WD or Hardings tomorrow?
I picked up some extra masks is anyone needs one.
Maybe hamburgers and hot dogs would be easier (maybe we chip in a few bucks)
I will bring a MASSkiting flag
I think we need a group photo (this will be tough but we need to try even if people are holding kites.
Obviously this needs to be on video. SO if you have a camera please bring it. Video tape the ride/beach/interviews any thing to ad depth to the final cut.
I am thinking that while a few costumes may not make it the pictures and video will be epic and timeless!
We should try our best to get the cameras next to water as we need to work hard to get that camera there. Maybe we can ask anyone not kiting to help out.
i will have the gopro for some action shot and some hamburgers.
I hope somebody will have the grill!!
sounds fun
hey guys!!
For our Spooktacular Event we need to get organize to have a great event.
I wanted to know who is going to bring what. I think we could share some stuff for our big event.
Does any one will bring a grill?
I will bring 10 to 15 steak, first come first serve,
I hope others will share too?
have a great day.
Antoine
Yes Cape, could do Hardings, if WSW as predicted.
Never done Hardings.. Could do that or WD
How about WD to Hardings? Hopefully no one has a costume malfunction along the way.
I will be looking to rock my costume on the water Sat. I assume people may have Halloween parties and Sunday plans (kids happen). So lets try to get the cameras rolling Sat morning - afternoon! I really hope people can wear something and do the first costume kite event I have ever heard of... If its been done well.... Our turn!
Saturday looks to be the day. If wind is up I'll be at the beach by 9:30 if not earlier.
Who can bring a grill for lunch?
I can bring grill! We are talking cape right?
i will bring the steak if somebody has the grill
Let's do saturday! Jermy i might be able to give you a ride!!
What time do you have to be at work on Sunday, I was thinking of being back in town 10-ish Sunday morning.
I can totally do that. I should be at work by 10:30-11ish. You staying at the Camp Jean? that'd be sweeet!
Yes! How you doin?
Saturday's wind forecast looks delish
Anyone going down just for Saturday? I need a ride and need to work Sunday
Jermy,
I will be coming from western mass so I cant give you a ride there but I can probably give you a ride back. I need to be in Cambridge saturday night.
I was going to get a mask. Then I decided that a full body costume might be more fabulous! So I am looking now for a something that will fit under my drysuit
I have not done a custume in 3 years but this year for the love of kiteboarding I am totally stoked... Cant wait to see what other people bring.
Pictures on and off the water will be priceless. Even if you only get one jump out of paper wings know that you have done your community service. If this turns out well next year should be a shit show!
Just got my costume!!! Excited to see it fly....
How cold is the water right now. Boston bay versus nantucket sound. I was out in a 4/3 for TD7 and was perfectly warm? I would prefer to rock my wetsuit to make putting a costume over it easier!
I wasnt out last weekend what were people wearing on the water?
Wetsuit i was out saturday on the cape it was freezing!!
I'll be on the Cape Friday night or Saturday morn. First annual Spookapalooza can be held at "The Camp" aka "Masskiting HQ" Won't need to worry about fire permits and I have a lot of brush to burn. Might come back Sat night to Boston if there are any good parties to be had. If not, all are welcome to crash at my joint (Friday night as well).
I'm in either day. I propose having it somewhere that beach fires are allowed- Sandy Neck if a W or NW wind? (Only problem is no alcohol allowed there.) If no wind I'll bring the Grinch Winch or a towboat.
Paul
I like the idea of being able to have a fire, I know we have our share of pyro..I mean fire enthusiasts here.
I think the details are pretty easy to work out once we have people and once the wind is clear.
So we will shoot for,
Kiting in costume!
Beer!
Grilling!
Publicity!
Best Costume award presented by me! Unless someone else wants to provide the prize and then they can make their own category!
But a beach BBQ or at least bonfire would be sweet!
Right now Saturday looks better for wind but who knows with this storm moving through from the mid west!
I've got a killer costume....just name the time and the place and i'll do whatever it takes to make the ride....LOL
I'm all over this event. I've been carting around my Nacho Libre mask since La Ventana.
"Kenny, I'm so freaking ready!" -Stevie fom EastBoundnDown
If the rocket is in its an event!
I love the idea! What day?! I can only do sunday! So if its that day I am in!!!
Not that I place too much stock in a 6 day forecast but Sunday looks pretty good for west winds. Low tide at mid-day.
2 years ago I was in FL Key west and was about to buy an elf hat and some ridiculously short red shorts with white fur... Yes it was a kinky elf suit...
I wanted to wear it for a good picture and use it as Xmas cards... Well I didnt have the stones... this time I am ready to redeem - just still no kinky santa outfit....
I see a number of online communities. But this one people just up and do shit as family!!! Best place to be a kiter is here.... If you like the cold, wetsuits, gloves, boots, drysuits ect but the people make up for it...
But really look at other communities and they fail without wind and often forget to work on ideas together...
Spookapolooza!
I have my costume understood... Its a secret but I cannot wait!
Well maybe the group ride can occur where ever but we are a multimedia and site connected group! SO we can all kite if necessary in other locations and use our community technology, iphones, video, photo, session reports, gallery ect to get it all here in one place.
I can make a "official event" we need a name. Then when you have you pictures of your costumes of the day regardless of where you were we make "event reports" an then its all on one page!
I'm in if we ride a local beach (i.e. not the cape)
if you are worried about riding the cape because you are not a local don't worry, we have local t-shirts you can wear to blend in
LOL
"spookapalooza"
I agree! This was an idea that we wanted to get into the next Hatteras Trip to follow the Elvis costume. I suggest we all go get a cheap costume - something crazy and get a great video session and video..
Totally a good idea! How many characters have capes?
I think just about any costume can have a cape! But if we do this I will throw it out there right now,
free case of beer for the best costume...
Hi Eric,
I was thinking something similar! Should not be too hard to get some waterproof masks.
Saturday would be preferred, on Sunday Eugene and I are running the Cape Cod Marathon relay race with a team.
Let's hope for good wind on Sat !!
i find my costume already let's hope for the wind saturday!!
