From our host, Eric:

So it took me a solid day to recover to the point where I could even think about posting! I am still sore and sunburned but trying to shake off a kiting hangover.

This weekend really rocked. Huge thanks to everyone who drove cars over. We could not have managed all those people and gear without your help. Also have to send a huge thanks to everyone who took charge cooking the meals. Having organized the trip with some help from the usual suspects it was really rewarding to see everyone else step in once on the island and help make the trip a huge success!

A few moments I truly enjoyed.

The friday night session in Katama. With absolutely no wind all day and mixed rain showers we took a quick 2 minute ride down to the beach around 6:30pm and out of no where there was a breeze. It looked light but Den and Skyrocket called it and started rigging. Within 20 minutes we had 20 kiters down there rigging up. We kited well after the sun went down and at the end we could only see by the row of cars on the beach with their headlights shining on the water. Really great stuff!

Saturday

The ear to ear smiles on everyones face seeing what an amazing beach we had and just enjoying everyones company. Kites went up and down throughout the day, I think Dunoyer poached the best session of the day on JD's zypher. Again everyone just came together to have a blast, from beach games to kiting and floating down the beach in the current with beers it was a blast.

Saturday night sticks out as particularly ridiculous. Surf and Turf dinner followed by a big push to get to the bars in town. We drank the bar out of smirnoff ice. Not usually something to brag about but in this case it was. Then the struggle to get everyone home since we had to take a boat across the channel to get back to chappy. By 2am the last car left the point and along the way we picked up two groups of masskiters who somehow got separated from the group and otherwise would have had a 3 miles walk home in the dark made for a lot of laughs. This followed by a random assortment of fireworks at 3am.

Sunday morning Dunoyer and I took a trip down to the beach at 6am to check the conditions. We were surprised to find Kristoff had already been up for a while and was making a valiant effort to untangle some lines that looked like a rats nest, and even more surprised to find JD passed out in the back of Ilya's car.

After a look at the beach, some breakfast, and some cleaning a few of our numbers had to leave for the ferry home however the rest of us headed back to the beach and go a killer session in riding all afternoon smacking the ocean and butter flats with style.

I think by the end of the weekend everyone was thoroughly exhausted and totally satisfied.

Personally I was just really pleased so many people got to experience the hidden bliss of kiting Chappy and MV in true masskiting spirit. I am always amazed by the way we manage to come together as a kiteboarding community. Kiters of different abilities and people from all walks of life sharing the same stoke and love of the wind and water.

Again thanks to everyone who came down and made this weekend amazing!

Debauchery

Lots of stories to tell -- drunk people passed out on the road in the middle of the night, trying to find a house in the woods 3 miles and a boat channel away from the bars. Days and nights spent out on the sand bar catching wind from all directions, most memorable being a pre-thunderstorm SSE blow from 8 till dark, though yesterday was pretty epic as well, all day in the blazing sun, starting with a 7:30AM gusty WNW, followed by a lunch time lull, then a SW afternoon delight, never saw so many bright smiles, kites in the air, tourists watching, cheering, asking questions. Ocean conditions on one side -I got to SMACK THE LIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - butter flats on the other. Hung out with old friends, met several new friends, and Eric was THE most GRACIOUS and GENEROUS host. He led an tremendous expedition in true Masskiting style. Let's plan something cool for the Fall, maybe an Outer Cape downwinder or something.
