Saw your post. I've been usiing a Deciever bag to go to Turks and Caicos for 5 years now. It has held up just fine and only twice was I asked what was in it. Once the Boston agent winked at my wife saying "golf clubs right?", the agent knew otherwise but didn't care. I almost spoke up but my wife elbowed me to shut up! The 2nd time I was asked we were leaving Turks and the bag was slightly over 50lbs and the agent asked if it was carring clubs and my wife just said yes, the line had been long and she was tired and wanted out of there, she usually doesn't lie. The agent then said well you are a little over but I'll let it go.
My best advice is use curbside when leaving Boston if at all possible, never given a 2nd look and most importantly keep the bag UNDER 50 lbs, that seems to be the trigger for questions. I carry a Nobile 143 EXT and North Select 135 along with LF Havocs 14 and 12 with board's pads, straps and fins in another bag. I take a 10m in another bag too. That works for me in Turks.
I think it is all about weight. They never comment about length. Heck my other checked bag always comes in around 55lbs but it is smaller and they never say anything about. Go figure.
